Meanwhile, the tremendous exertion, coupled with the physical exhaustion of my near-death experience left me too drained and disorientated to notice much of anything while I tried to recover.

Fortunately, it would appear that the Chaos being was down for the count, for now at least.

By now however, the unmanned bulldozer had both figuratively and literally plowed its way through the blazing fuel spin and emerged on the other side of the smoke and flames, headed straight for the transport craft.

Jii and Anu would most certainly feel the vehicle lurch as the machine's forward blade struck the first transport. The impact did nothing to slow down the hulking machine and it began to literally push the transport along until it smashed into the second one.

I was still in too much of a daze to tell what the extent of the damage the transports suffered, much less cognizant enough to recognize I'd hit something at all.

I also, didn't notice the smoke starting to waft up into the driver's cabin. The bulldozer was rapidly becoming engulfed in fire. If I and the others didn't abandon this thing quick, the fuel tanks might explode and kill us all.

Ji and Anu dawdled no longer. They got into the bulldozer's cabin and attempted to pick up Chadin.

(Ji) "...I can't glide with his added weight. I'd crash."
(Anu) "I'll carry him. You watch for trouble."

Anu somehow managed to get off the ground with Chadin in his arms. Ji glided out and assessed the situation.

Gail spared a moment to look up from his gunfight to check on Ji and Anu.

"Took 'em long enough..." he muttered under a growl.

As he was about to take one more shot, something struck him in the back. There was a bright flash of light, and instantly the wolf found himself pushed to the ground. As he crashed down to the dusty floor, he remembered this feeling from getting blasted by a stun bolt earlier.

Immediately he willed himself to start to get up, but then a second bolt struck him...and then a third. That put him down for the count. Gail laid there, with his large canine tongue hanging lopsided out of his partially open, drooling mouth.

Out of the darkness, the flanking SWATbots emerged and walked over to collect him. Before long they'd be on their way back to the factory ship.

I was only barely conscious of the fact someone had grabbed me, but I was still too dazed and exhausted to truly grasp what was happening. It was only after we landed that the haze in my mind finally started to lift. I STILL felt like I'd been through several marathons, but at least I now had enough strength in me to at least start moving; albeit very slow and painfully.

"Gnnnh... Jii? Wha-what happened?" I asked as my eyes fixed themselves on my two rescuers.

Of course, the timing of their rescue couldn't have been better. No more than a minute after they pulled me off that bulldozer, it exploded into a tremendous fireball, taking out both of the transports it was immediately next to and putting the others close by in serious jeopardy of exploding too if the flames from those ships spreads too far.

Ji didn't answer Chadin's question. She and Anu were too concerned with getting him out of harm's way.

When the explosion occurred, they were all tossed forwards. Anu somehow managed to land without dropping Chadin, and Ji opened her frills and glided. On the way she spotted Gail get taken down.

(Ji) "...Gail's in trouble. I'll go after him, Anu; you tend to the deer."
(Anu) "Very well, Your Highness... *sigh*"

Gail's feet dragged along the floor as he was pulled back into the building by the SWATBots, out of sight. Meanwhile, the SWATbots who'd been taking potshots at Gail from outside the building walked over to join the group.

Jii no doubt would have seen them from the air as well. However, they didn't appear to have noticed her just yet, but there were now four of them escorting Gail back to the factory ship.

Meanwhile, at the back of the yard of transport ships, one SWATbot discreetly walked towards an intact transport ship. He seemed to be a lot more alert than your average security bot, as he scanned all over the place for intruders. Satisfied that he had not been spotted, the bot collected one of the crates the intruders had seen earlier and quickly made a break for one of the intact transport ships.

"Huh... wha...?" I stammered as Ji ran off. I barely caught some of what she said, but I was still so dazed that it was difficult to focus and comprehend everything around me.

I groaned as I rubbed my throbbing head, trying to remember what was happening. "Ohhh... The last thing I remember was hearing Gerald talking... HE BETRAYED ME!!! HE ORDERED THAT CHAOS THING TO KILL ME!!!" That realization snapped me out of that haze. Of course, the feelings that realization left me with were certainly of the worst kind. I was angry!

For the second time, in my life, someone I thought I could trust had betrayed me and tried to kill me. But the biggest sting was that I'd convinced myself to give Gerald the benefit of the the doubt after my admittedly frosty meeting and just look how it turned out in the end!! I was right not to trust him!!

The scars on my body began glow again as I seethed with fury. "THAT DOES IT!!! FROM NOW ON I WORK SOLO!!!!" I screamed as my proverbial kettle boiled over. "And the first thing I'm going to do is have a little CHAT! With those Robotniks!!" With my anger firmly in the driver's seat, I jumped to my feet and ran for the factory ship and primed a shot, with Robotnik's name on it. Whichever one I saw first!

Anu tried to protest to Chadin's flight, but couldn't get his attention.

Ji rode the air towards Gail and the four 'bots escorting him. She went over the matter in her mind, trying to decide on a plan of attack. She also glanced around for anything nearby she could use.

If I just charge in they won't respond kindly. I have to stay agile. Maybe Gail could get free on his own if I distracted them...

Gail was basically out cold from the stun gun bolts, so Ji wouldn't have much choice but to take out the bots if she wanted to free him. However, they were walking through the building Gail had been hiding in. They'd have to pass through a dark hallway, out of sight of the rest of the compound to reach the factory ship that way.

Chadin's violent run straight for the factory ship, out in the open, definitely got the attention of the local forces. A SWATbot stationed on a turret gun on the side of the ship rotated his guns around and opened fire. Laser blasts would start to fall all around Chadin like hard rain, as dirt and pebbles spattered everywhere from the impacts.

The lone SWATbot back at the ship yard quietly loaded his one crate into the transport ship's cargo room. A careful eye would see the glint of an emerald shard, shortly before the bot realized the box was partly open. The bot quickly slammed it shut and hopped in the pilot's seat. Before long the transport ship's engines would be firing up and lifting it off of the ground.

The hail of laser fire around my forced me to stop and leap sideways out of the line of fire. But I was far to angry to let even the heavy fire-power of that turret stop me from reaching Robotnik. I took careful aim of the Swat-bot manning the turret and fired. With luck that Swat-bot would soon have a smoking hole through it's visor momentarily.

Unfortunately, my emotions got the better of me and I paid no heed to the sound of the lone transport attempting to take-off.
