Overhead, mingled with pillars of rising black smoke, a trio of hovercraft cut a swath across the sky. After he'd left, the Pyro-bot had kept up its original task and now a huge swathe of the Mushroom Hill Zone was engulfed in flames.

Rampage knew where those intruders were thanks to the spy-eye watching the scene, he also knew that the cat disappeared into the woods rather inexplicably. But what really drew his attention, was the brilliant flash of light. "Okay, one drop ship keep heading for the beach and obliterate anything there."

The drop ship carrying the full squad of eight Swat-bots carried on while the drop ship carrying Rampage's Alpha Com-bot swept in toward that flash of light. Vanessa and Tancer may notice the approach of these ships through the thick smoke. But for now, Rampage hadn't spotted them yet.

As Sonic entered the Mushroom Hill Zone, he couldn't help but pause for a moment to stare at all the destruction. The last time around here, he remembered what a bright and cheerful place it had looked like with all the colorful mushrooms. Now it looked like an ashtray. The hedgehog's gloved fist tightened for a moment, as he thought about how long it would take for all of this to grow back. Sure, most of the time he acted like your average hot-headed teen, but even this gave him pause for a moment.

But not for long. He glared at the disappearing jet engines of Rampage's ship, and promised he would do everything he could to protect what was left of the island.

"You will get what's coming to Robotnik. You and all of your allies."

Tancer managed to stay planted through Vanessa's one of a kind greeting.
"Oi, what are yah doing in the muse-" the purple fox had to stop himself when he noticed it wasn't the cat who had come to him, instead he was standing in the middle of a mushroom forest. A sour look came over his face but quickly passed. "There's another job gone...." He returned his attention back to Vanessa while prying the cat off of his side.
"What ever, what's the word, Vanessa? And why is this place on fire?" He asked looking around watching the ash fall to the ground like snow.

"Tancer! It's been so long." The blue cat just couldn't contain her excitement. Resisting Tancer separating but just couldn't out class his raw strength. "On fire....? Oh it is!" Vanessa just noticed it herself. "Dunno... hey what's that!" She pointed towards a drop ship exiting the smoke clouds. They seemed to head towards the two though they couldn't tell if they would land or not.

There they are..." Rampage smiled with a sinister grin. "All forces, ATTACK!!! Shoot to kill!!!!" Without any further pause, Rampage fired his ships main gun at the two figures.

Simultaneously, an imposing green figure leapt from the Swat-bot drop ship. At the last second, a green camouflaged parachute sprang out, halting its fall. no sooner did the figure make landfall, than it retracted its parachute and all but disappeared into thin air.

Meanwhile, the Swat-bot drop ship quickly dove for the burning forest floor where it would deploy the dozen Swat-bots on board.

Sonic didn't see Vanessa or Tancer yet, but he definitely saw the shooting. Rampage already had found the people he'd been talking about back in the cave. He was about to take a leap straight up at Rampage's ship, but then saw a curious green SwatBot-like robot jump out of the ship. He definitely hadn't seen one like that before. It had parachutes and...

Invisibility?!

That was definitely something new. And it looked like Sonic had three targets to choose between. Rampage, the invisible robot, or the regular SWATbots now deploying. Considering the badger was threatening the newcomers right now, he thought he should start there.

The hedgehog couldn't help but feel memories coming back as he poured on the speed, landed on an unburnt mushroom, and used that to spring high into the air. Now heading straight for Rampage's ship, he aimed to crash right into the side to throw off his aim.

After being seperated by Sonic and the others back in the Hydrocity Zone, Knuckles went back to an old hang-out spot he used to inhabit here in the Mushroom Hill Zone. However, thinking he came here to relax and sort things out he found himself vexed. Countless flames blanketed the once peaceful place. Soebody was gonna face his relentless fury about this. Slight releif enveloped him as he felt a large surge of power that felt like a sonic boom. With no hesitation he pursued it. Much to his suprise his adventure ended very quickly as he saw a cobalt hedgehog battling some sort of ship out in the distance.

"Finally some action. Plus I really need to hit somthing." He muttered under his breath. With a quick pound of his fists, he rushed to the scene.

While Tancer was busy keeping Vanessa from smothering him, he noticed out of the corner of his eye a feint light on the giant ship. No stranger to weapons he wasn't surprised when it started firing. Grabbing the cat by scruff of her neck he threw her out of the firing line. Resolving to pick of the nearest chunk of earth he could get his hands on. Bullets didn't do much of anything on him, but lasers hurt like no one's business.
"Vanessa there are more to our side, go get them!" Tancer was revealed as his shield fashioned from dirt clod was wearing thin yet the stream of pellets had been knocked off of him. Giving him a chance to get behind something. "Aw damn, not the jacket!" Tancer had been grazed by a few lasers.

Vanessa sound found herself flying away from Tancer. As she was airborn she watched a shower of red line befall on the purple fox. "Vanessa. side. get them!" It was an order from the only person she'd take orders from, the onl person to ever beat her in a fist fight. Arching her back and twisting in the air, like all cats she landed on her feet. Dashing forward at over a 150 MPH, her top speed. She was aiming for the ship releasing a bunch of swatbots. Vanessa never did any thing straight forward so her approach was was a mishmash of air dashes, sending up and left and right making an almost cylinder like path.

"Huh, bit unorthodox, but apparently effective." Rampage had to admit as the dust settled and Tancer remained standing. "Oh well, lets see how well that trick works on FULL power." His one-sided grin reappeared with vengeance as he squeezed the trigger again... just as Sonic struck the side of his ship.

The ship rocked violently to the side, throwing off his aim. Instead of hitting Tancer, the high-powered energy shot burned a perfect, four foot wide hole in the truck of one of the giant mushrooms. The mushroom could not withstand such damage to its stem and it came crashing down, crushing several other mushrooms on the way down. (albeit not in the direction of Tancer or Vanessa)

Sonic's impact left a hefty dent in the side of the ship, and Rampage's robotic face had smashed against the side window, cracking the glass something awful.

"Ugh, whot happen?" Rampage stuttered as he recovered from the unexpected hit. Looking out the window, he could see Sonic falling back to the ground after striking his ship. "Oh ho!! Better late than never bot bait!" Rampage laughed.

"Attention, new life-form entering combat zone." It was Com-bot Alpha calling. "It appears to be a red echidna."

"Huh... why does that ring a bell...? Oh well, turn it into red goo." Rampage shrugged.

"Pyro-bot is still operating in this sector."

"Ooh, even better! Pyro-bot, turn that echidna into crispy critters and Alpha, you take out those over two. The hedgehog is MINE!!!" Rampage killed the connection with a savage smile.

"Okay, hedgehog, you scratched my new paint job, so that means I get to scratch your sorry hide!! Come and get some!!!" Rampage's voice boomed out over the speaker as he wheeled his ship around and began firing on Sonic.

Meanwhile, the Swat-bots were busily unloading from the drop ship just as Vanessa impacted the ships cockpit. The force of the blow sent the ship spinning wildly into a mushroom stalk. But unlike Rampage's ship, this one was built to much less sturdy. The entire side crumpled in, destroying the piloting bots and rendering the ship totaled.

As for the disembarking Swat-bots, several of them were flung in all directions from the force of the impact and resultant spin. One landed funny and was knocked out of commission, but the other eleven were still able to get back up to their feet after their systems were able to recalibrate from the fall. "Halt!! All ur base belong to uz!!" One of the Swat-bots shouted out at Vanessa.

"Unit 00-21-45 is talking in video game quotes again..." Another Swat-bot said sarcastically to another, despite being completely monotone.
