Lost my job...

Lost my job...
Hey everyone.

I recently had to resign from my job as a computer programmer. I figure it'd be best to let you all know up front so you'd know what I was going through if I seem irritable or depressed. Plus, I think the best way to finding a new job is to let everyone know you're currently looking for one, in case someone knows of an opportunity you could take up.

There is some good news though. I did get a pretty generous severance package, the extra vacation time I had will be paid out, and I've got a ton of money saved up in my bank account. I was going to use my savings for the down payment on a house, but now it should hold me over until I can get my feet back under me again. If necessary, I can easily survive on all of this for well over a year. And if all else fails I can always go back to working for my dad, although I'd consider that an absolute last resort. I don't wanna go back to doing manual labor eight hours a day.

I'm still working through the grieving process right now though. In fact, it's currently 3:30 AM in the morning the first day after I lost my job as I write this, and I just can't sleep right now. There's too many thoughts racing through my head.

Anyway, just thought you all should know. I really didn't want to keep this to myself. I'm definitely planning to stick around here too, and for the short term I'll have more time for this place than I did before. It'll be a good outlet for me to help deal with this life change.

Thank you, to whoever reads and responds to this. I appreciate you listening to me very much.

If I were any good at consoling other people I would do just that.

As it is, I'll just wish you luck and hope things work out for you.

RE: Lost my job...
I wish you luck Nail. It may take some time to find another job, but it can be done. Until then, I guess you can work on that fanfiction you told me about. I know it may take some time to get a job since there's a lot of others who wish to steal it from you.

However, maybe you just weren't meant to be to in the business major you signed yourself up for. There are jobs you could find online. You could get paid, pay your stuff and you could work whenever you wanted. Just google online jobs. That way you could work and write that fanfiction you told me about in a private message. I wish you luck with the grieving process and I hope you're able to figure out what to do.

See you for now Nail, have fun.

I am a cop, if you break the law you better watch out. Don't mind my avatar, I don't draw that well.

RE: Lost my job...
I really hope you can find a job. I know how depressing it feels. My aunt has been in this situation way too many times. But then again that’s because no one would hire her full time. She’s been from Organ to Indiana for it. @_@

And Tech probably has your best bet. I know there are a lot of jobs through internet venues. Or at least I’ve heard. I wish you the best of luck four it.

RE: Lost my job...
Thank you for replying everyone.

To be honest, I don't think I want to have a work from home internet job. As dreary as commuting is, I want human contact while I'm working. When I had to work from home at my last job due to inclement weather, it was fine the first day but I could never see myself doing nothing but that. I missed getting to speak and interact my coworkers face to face.

Whatever my new job is, I would consider it very likely I'll be earning a lot less than I did before. Probably tens of thousands less. However, if I had stayed with my old job, there was a good chance I would have had to relocate to another state this year. Maybe now I can get a job that'll stay here in my home state, and I'll be able to settle down and get a house. With my old job, I always had the thought of relocation in the back of my mind, so I always kept myself somewhat distant from most of my neighbors and stayed in my apartment despite being able to afford a house down payment.

If I finally have the chance to fully invest myself in my community, I think that could end up being better than having a higher salary.

RE: Lost my job...
Looks like I'm about to get an interview lined up for a job. However, it's temporary work that lasts only a year. I'll most likely make half or less than half of what I made before, and I don't get any benefits aside from health insurance I have to pay for. But on the bright side, it's for a company I'm interested in working for, and it could eventually lead to a permanent position. I'll just have to be frugal in the meantime and see about moving into a cheaper apartment.
