Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

Anyone see this movie based on the titular videogame series? What did you think of it?

I've never been a gigantic fan of PoP, but I have played the first Sands of Time game. Disney definitely took pains to capture many elements from PoP: SoT and the series as a whole, from what I remember of the games.

To be honest, after the first act (which mirrors the first level of Sands of Time, where Persia is conquering a nation with the dagger and the Sands of Time) I actually forgot I was watching a videogame-based movie after a while and started looking at the work on its own. It's definitely a good swashbuckling-type adventure film, with the witty banter between the Prince and the Princess, the parkour, and the sword fights. It actually feels a bit like a live-action version of Aladdin in places (particularly both Aladdin and the Prince originally being street urchins). I didn't think I'd like that, but now I actually do.

Two regrets:

1) I wish there were more parkour. A lot of it is quite good, but you only see a lot of the Prince doing it in the first and third acts.

2) I didn't feel like I was watching a Disney movie for much of the film...until the ending. Holy crap...only Disney would do these kinds of endings anymore. It's way too upbeat and happy.

Throughout the film, the prince suffers many losses. A lot of people who are close to him die, in addition to him losing his royalty. I was actually surprised by all the death, but I thought it was a nice change of pace too. Then at the end of the film the prince is able to rewind time to before all those people die, but now he is able to take care of his traitorous uncle before he can execute his plans so that they don't. Wow. And to think I thought Disney was actually gonna let them stay dead. *sigh* Nope. It cheapens everything the prince suffers through. I was so disappointed...

Yeah, I haven't seen it, a lot of early buzz I heard about the movie seemed to say it was going to be another crappy video game movie, (guess that would be at least consistent.) but I have heard some other people say they liked it too, so maybe I will have to go give it a shot.
