Omega jumped to his feet, a look of shock on his face at seeing the echidna. He looked around a bit, remembering where he had stopped to rest. He cautiously stepped toward Knuckles, and tapped his shoulder a few times, in slight disbelief that he was real.

"Whoa.... You ARE real! Alright, someone else is here! Again!"

Knuckles looked hard at the hedgehog, who seemed just as confused as he was.

"So there are others on this island, where are they and what has happened to the Master Emerald?

About this time, Knuckles sensed the shards in the hedgehogs possession.

"And what are those gem shards I sense you carrying?"

Omega stared blankly at Knuckles.

"Uh.... Well, there was Whip... But I haven't seen him for a long time... As for the Master Emerald... I have no clue... The island was floating in the water when I got here. As for the shards... Again, no clue. Just some gems Whip asked me to hold onto because they gave him a headache. We were hoping to make some profit off of them."

Upon closer inspection, Knuckles decided they must be Chaos Emerald shards due to the energy they gave off. Knuckles narrowed his eyes at the hedgehog and spoke after taking some time to think to himself.

"These appear to be Chaos Emerald shards, so I'll ask that you give them to me. I'm on my way to the Alter where the Master Emerald should be to investigate why this island isn't floating like it's supposed to, you will come with me so I can keep an eye on you. What should I call you hedgehog?"

Omega looked at the shards in his hand, wondering if he should really give them over so easily. He decided that he would hang on to them, for just a bit longer.

"My name is Alpha Omega, but if you'll just call me Omega, that'd be fine. As for these shards, I'd rather hang onto them for a bit longer."

Knuckles didn't see any harm in letting the hedgehog hang on to the shards, but decided that so long as the hedgehog was with him, he could get them back whenever he wanted.

"Very well Alpha Omega, you may hang on to them so long as you stay where I can see you. Now we really must be off, I don't want to waste anymore time here."

Omega stretched and started walking towards the Hidden Palace. He knitted his hands behind his head, closed his eyes, and yawned.

"Alright alright... Not like I've got anything better to do today anyway. Might as well go and check on your obviously damaged pebble."

Knuckles was insulted by the comment, but chose to ignore it for now.

"You will learn to respect the Master Emeralds power, it is great beyond your comprehension. It is the power that normally keeps this entire island afloat. Now come, lets be on our way."
