A while back, I joined this site, because it was the only quality Sonic RP on the internet. Everything else was either run by preteens, or elitists, who only wanted to tell THEIR story. THEIR take on the setting was the ONLY right one. More often than not, this meant that the setting stopped being the Sonic Universe, and started being a universe that had Sonic characters in it.

Now. I'm not going to walk up and say that this place sucks now, because of the new change, or that the people here are elitists for DARING to change things to what they like. The quality here is just as good as before, as are the people. I'm also not going to pretend I fail to see the irony of complaining about people who only want their version of the Sonic universe, when I, myself, are a severe canon stickler. Still, I need to get this off my chest, so I can quit irritating the people who did nothing to incur the wrath of a nerd who just wants to find a place to play his three foot tall cartoon animals.

I didn't like the idea of this restart from the beginning. Other people had said they had written themselves into a corner, but I was still full of ideas with the characters I had. Starting over would mean that I would have to replay the year or so I spent here, and undo the two whole weeks my character had gone through to play over. But, I went with it because everyone else needed this reboot, and I was only losing two weeks of in game time. I could just rebuild things they way they were. I was told there wouldn't be any changes drastic enough to derail what I already established.

But now I'm seeing that we aren't just restarting, we're changing the whole plot. Universes colliding, cities being taken over, elements of the SatAM being slipped into a universe based mostly around the games, understandable deviations from the canon aside, for the sake of making the experience better.

This... isn't what I signed up for. In fact, this new direction is turning this RP into the very thing that drove me off every other Sonic RP site out there. It's not really the setting I was looking for, as much as it's a whole new world with a blue hedgehog painted on it.

I don't roleplay in a Sonic universe because I want to only interact with the characters. Part of the fun is trying to design a character to fit around the limits and leniency of the established setting, as few as there are. The universe is different now, though. It's not just about designing a character who fits in a cartoony world where three foot animals exist, trying to stop a big fat guy from taking over the world. It's about a world that has literally had a whole new universe dropped on it. People being pulled from the world they were used to, and thrown into some strange new place, which kinda looks like their old world, but the balance of power has been seriously skewed.

In other words, what was Sonic the game, turned into Sonic X (albeit a little more serious, better written, and thankfully lacking Chris Thorndyke).

To be honest, this RP doesn't need someone like me in it.

So. Rather than jump up and down and ruin everyone's fun by demanding they fix something that's likely not nearly as broken as I am, I think I'm probably just going to take a break. At this point, I don't think I have a choice in the matter.

So, thanks for the year and a half, and thanks for letting me play out those two weeks. You're still a hell of a lot better than any other Sonic RP around.

I know how you feel. I'm taking a possibly permanent break, too, albeit for different reasons. But I'm not leaving the forum. I'll continue to hang out in the out-of-character areas. You thinking of doing the same?

You basically already know my stand point on this, so it's really unnecessary for me to talk any further of it.

It was a good round playing Amy with you. I feel you are misinterpreting the entire situation, but regardless of that, if it is a situation that makes you uncomfortable, you should not force yourself to roleplay. It's supposed to be a game anyway. Not a job.

Well, now that I've had a chance to calm down from a lot of stress, consider this a small update.

I'm still going to take the previously mentioned break. Things are getting a little busy, what with finals and an impending graduation. So I don't really have the time to adapt to the new setting, or do a whole lot of forum-based RPing period. My previous rant was partially influenced by being too tired to really wrap my brain around what all's going on.

I'll still be around, and I'll probably still be participating on the various going ons on the site. Right now, though, there are a lot of changes, both here and offline, and I'd rather focus elsewhere.

So, to summarize, disregard the BAWWW in the first post. I was being an overdramatic ass.

Like you said, everyone has their own interpretation of what the ideal Sonic universe is. Well...if all of the universes collided, everyone could pretty much borrow anything they liked from ANY Sonic canon and fit into this RP with little trouble. Or that was the idea at least. It was an attempt to please as many people as possible.

Sad that it turned you off. Anyway, good luck with IRL. I'm in a similar situation at work and I'm working at least an hour of overtime every day now...often two.
