A Wisp of Wist: Stonehedge Rentals
'You're welcome to stay should you wish to, of course. The Council of Soleana is willing to accept all victims of the dimensional merge until we may resolve this worldly problem. Should you choose, you may also join the Council. Now, we will-' 'Sero...' 'I, among the others who stand with me now, are all very willing to allow you to stay in our quarters until you all get back on your feet. I know what we have to offer isn't much, but-' 'Dimitri...' 'Now, I know adjusting is not an easy task, but it is my hope that you will all continue to work with us as we address this global issue. I cannot promise a safe return to whence you came, but I will say that we will work alongside you and if there is a way, we will give you our full support. And so, for now-" 'This can't be how it really is...!' I gulped and choked on the air as if I were drowning in it. Sat upright, my body shaking, my heart feeling as it was convulsing out the fear of that dream. That dream was real. That real was dream. That- my fevered thoughts blanked. Useless. It would be useless to have another panic over this. I'd been through an attack daily. Worrying over what I couldn't control. And there? I had almost let myself go again. It was enough. A week was enough. I let slip my hand through my unruly, thick hair without giving it any real thought and slouched forward until my back piped up irritably. A few twists, a few cracks, and I returned to my sat up position and took one deep breath after another. I'd begun each morning like this. I'd almost say exactly like this, but that one last part... I kind of hoped wouldn't happen. It was no use trying to avoid the inevitable though. Climbing out of bed, I addressed a change of clothes. Tucking into a pair of pants here felt strange and uncomfortable at first, but I was taking a liking to them. The people seemed nice, too. Strange... Very... bald. Furless. But nice. After strapping on my boots, I stared again at my belt and apron... I took a hold of my apron first, buckling it around my waist. And then, my belt. It felt heavier than it had a week ago. Much heavier. I shook my head until those pluming thoughts dissipated and then started for the door. Maybe something would change today. Maybe... |
