Restart: Thoughts?

So, the restart is happenin'.

With it, we'll be turning to the next chapter of Aftermath. Its third round of the seven year lifespan it's had so far. Reopening doors to options that have been dismissed in the past and adding new features that will allow more active play to occur. What do you guys think? Are you excited about things? Curious? Concerned? Most importantly, why do you feel that way?

I'm concerned about this to be honest. I started rpging when you guys were already considering doing the upgrade and plus I'm here practically every day, so I'm curious as to what's going to happen?

Is the rpg we've been doing so far going to be deleted? Do we have to resubmit our profiles? What exactly is going to happen?

Well, as you said, it wasn't as if you were unaware of this development.

To answer your questions, yes, everything that will happen up until the restart will be archived to make room for the next round. You will have to submit a new profile if you intend to either play as a new character or make adaptations to your current characters. We are emphasizing for the new (that is, resetting your characters if you plan to still use them) instead of the old, but if a couple people are that incredibly weary about losing their progress, there is a middle ground to remedy that.

Everything else will be revealed in time. For now, you'll have to work with the current development in the news section.

Well I've voiced a lot of opinions lately so I might as well throw my two cents in.

My initial feelings are ones of nervousness; I seriously hope this reset will get things going but I'm concerned that it'll be the final nail in the coffin. People will see hardly anyone else getting going on the re-approving of profiles and getting plot going, and maybe think that as they ain't bothering, why should they.

Of course, I've been badly wrong in the past and I hope this time I am ^^ Maybe this is what the board needs. I just hope that when the staff stand down, they still remain an active part of the place. Without you guys, I guess it'd be like moving house but not taking that comfy, nakkered old settee with you. Or the glass cabinet. Or that rug with the old coffee stains on it. But at least we get that wall-mounted cuckoo clock and kettle to take along for the ride It'd feel weird without people like the current staff around... you're just standing down as staff, right? And not quitting the entire site.

If the forum switch works correctly, all you'd have to do is post your profile in the WIP, it'll automatically be accepted unless you wanna alter your character.

Example, if Noka remains Noka he'll be auto accepted
however if Noka gains a power to break minds he'd need to et that approved.

Don't worry Metal, I've been part of both restarts here and also several on other boards. I'm well versed in getting things right...although I'm not infalible I guess. XD

I appreciate that people will have concerns and will be nervous. I'm hoping I can make the change as smooth and stressless as possible for everyone involved. To expand on what Nok said a little, there will be rule changes and new things added but on the whole the core rules will remain the same. Thus as Nok said if you wish to simply transfer your current character to the new version then it shouldn't be a great problem. Although part of me is thinking that many of you may want to change your characters after seeing the new rules. We're offering a lot more freedom in the new version so you may want to slip in a few bits or change things around a little, the choice though is yours to make.

Oh and as far as I know Metal the old staff will be sticking around after they step down. I can't speak for everyone of course but I've grown very attached to this place and I'm kinda sentimental about it so I'd never want to leave it completely. ^^

I’m one of the staff people who will be stepping down. Over the last year and a half or so…it slowly dawned on me that I didn’t like being a mod. I had to push myself really hard to do any of my duties, except for dropping comments on the staff board. Guess it was just the result of having my first real job after college.

So I’m hoping that we’ll get new, young staff members pretty soon…people who are like we were a few years ago…still in college or high school and have comparatively more free time.

As for my personal thoughts on the restart, I very much look forward to the chance to start fresh again. I plan to let go of Nail. His story is more or less complete ever since he saved his children, so I’ve struggled to find something…anything for him to do since. So now I’ve got several candidates for who will be next.

You guys’ll like the new faction system, I bet. It’s designed to help get people together for plots, and it’s much easier to come and go from them. Think of them more as places to just gather with like-minded players, rather than organizations with official memberships and stuff like F4.

Well, I'm not in college, nor am I in high school, but I do have loads of free time, so I guess I could try and be a mod. Don't worry Nail, I'll help you in this mod business. I'm sure it'll work out.

Looking forward to it really. I'm going to change around Jav and probably ditch my other characters for the time being seeing as I never use them. Maybe I can finally put together a plot or something
