Yes, very expected.

"Yeah, but if Tails knew that and sent me anyway you can imagine how bad the situation must be," Sonic answered without missing a beat. "Not coming himself probably means he's still trying to finish the job in time to save some lives. He didn't have time to explain but apparently an all-out assault by you guys or even me isn't going to work fast enough for Eggman's new trick."

Hopefully nobody would catch that part where Sonic slightly and unconsciously rated himself higher than GUN. The more pressing context of the statement was probably enough of a distraction to do so.

"I didn't come expecting this to be easy but I at least have to try. If I have to talk to a General then let's do it."

Slick rubbed a hand over his slick, oily fur in frustration. Not just from the hedgehogs persistence, but also because he shared his misgiving about the situation too. Slick might be the kind of soldier that follows orders, but he's also not one to sit idly by while people suffered. Not after what happened to his parent during the alien invasion. He still blamed himself for that. Had he been able to organize his part of the mission faster, maybe he might have been able to bring things to a stop sooner, before so many lives were lost. "Look, hedgehog, I understand what your saying, and I don't want to just sit here waiting for Robotnik to make his move first before we do something... But GUN is just NOT going hand over that emerald... its to valuable to us... at least, not without some kind of proof. If you can maybe substantiate your claim and that Tails really has a weapon that can stop Robotnik, maybe that will be enough to convince them. But without that... I don't know..."

"So then don't hand it over," Sonic responded with a shrug-like gesture and wide eyes that conveyed his need to get the job done no matter what. "I don't care if its in my hands or if you guys send the entire army to deliver and watch over it yourselves. All that matters is that it gets there in time."

"Sonic, it's not that simple. We can't just go around transporting an emerald on a whim. For one thing we need that emerald. Do you have any idea how many back-up generators we'd need to run to make up just half of that emeralds output? Think about the level of attention we'd get if anyone word gets out about us moving that emerald? And I guarantee, word WILL get out. Everyone and their grandmother would be trying to make a grab for that thing. But you, fine, you want to hear what I'm saying from one of the generals be my guest. They're probably just going to say the same thing. C'mon." Slick waved his hand for the hedgehog to follow. This seemed like a big waste of time to him, but Sonic did seem rather insistent.
