Heroes Unite?
The people monitoring the skies around Prison Island would probably spot a small incoming and unauthorized vessel approaching well above the limits of radar around the same time those monitoring the airwaves would pick up a radio message on an open frequency.

"Hey guys! Sonic the Hedgehog here. Just calling to ask not to be shot down on my way over, since we've had such a tough time getting along in the past," the blue furry said with humour in his voice. It had been two years, and all had supposedly been forgiven, but darn it if Sonic didn't still like making fun of their mixing up Shadow with himself that time. But hey, making fun was better than holding a grudge over being tossed in a prison cell, right?

The Tornado 1 continued on its path, directly toward the island.

RE: Heroes Unite?
Inside Prison Island Air Traffic Control, the personnel monitoring the air waves and radars started springing into action as they received Sonic's brief message and detected the small bi-plane on long range radar. A gruff looking man, an air force colonel proceeded to the radio and replied to Sonic's message. "This is Colonel Halder, calling Sonic the Hedgehog. I appreciate that we are not enemies, son, but you are still a civilian entering a restricted air space. State your business."

RE: Heroes Unite?
"Yes sir!" Sonic answered while actually managing to not sound like he was making fun of the protocol. He must have had a really serious reason to go, that was for sure. "This civilian's got a huge update on the return of Doctor Eggman."

Now, lying was way out of Sonic the Hedgehog's character. In fact, if any professionals in the field might be listening in, he certainly didn't sound like he was lying even if it wasn't.

"I'd love to save you the trouble and handle it myself, but my buddy Tails says we need help fast if the Doc's new super-weapon is going to be stopped! Have to talk to a man in charge."

The plane's course remained as it was, heading straight for the island. Actually, Sonic didn't really know where a place to land properly might be... maybe they'd offer directions? That is, if they decided to be friendly.

RE: Heroes Unite?
The colonel genuinely paused and blinked in surprise for several second while he processed that bit of news... He was more surprised that the hedgehog was willingly coming to GUN for aid more than anything else. The notion that Robotnik has yet another crazy scheme is nothing out of the ordinary. Seems like he tries something every other week. Heck, some of the control staff even have an 'unofficial' pool going around about what and when the next Robotnik attack might be. GUN has already been on high alert ever since Robotnik made his world-wide broadcast so this may well be what they've been waiting for.

"Roger that Hedgehog, maintain current heading and land on runway zero-two-niner, over."

"Corporal, contact the head brass, let them know who's coming for a visit and have someone stand ready to greet our guest when he arrives and provide escort duty."

RE: Heroes Unite?
"Sure thing, Colonel. Over and out!" Sonic answered before turning his radio off. Inwardly the hero sighed a little at the meeting that was about to take place. He didn't exactly enjoy the idea of following military conduct. It slowed talking down a bit too much for his liking. 'Man, I hate this roundabout way of doing stuff. Still, I trust Tails. If he says this is the fastest way then this is the fastest way.'

Of course, Miles Prower had been as surprised by Sonic's apparent theft of the Tornado 1 as the delivery man who brought him the knock-out gas had been. So what exactly was going on in the speedster's head?

After staying on the look-out for a big 2-0-9 and landing the biplane without any incident Sonic hopped informally out of his pilot's seat and gave the nearby soldier's a friendly one-handed wave.

"Hey guys! Keep up the good work! Anybody I can talk to here? Or do you need to point me in the right direction?" he greeted. Despite the troubles Sonic had personally had with GUN in the past the men and women who served were still held in high esteem for their efforts in helping people around the world.

RE: Heroes Unite?
"That, hedgehog, would be my job." A familiar voice called out to Sonic. Walking up to meet Sonic at his plane was none other than Slick. Of course, the last time Sonic had seen the otter was nearly two weeks ago aboard the alien drop ship where he and Shadow traded some rather... 'unkind' sentiments with one another. Not only that but the last time Sonic saw Slick he'd been in full combat gear and probably about as gritty and ruffed up as one might expect to find a front-line combat soldier.

This time however, Slick wore just his freshly pressed gray-tone camouflage uniform with his call sign neatly stitched across his left breast, a black beret on his head with an elaborate emblem placed over his left eye and a shiny silver bar pinned, to his collar, the mark of a lieutenant. Something he DEFINITELY did not have before.

"Welcome to Prison Island, Sonic. What brings you here?" Slick held out a hand in greeting, but as he did so, he leaned in closer, speaking in a hushed tone so that any other soldiers in the vicinity wouldn't hear. "Scuttlebutt says you're hear because Robotnik is getting ready for something big."

RE: Heroes Unite?
Sonic definitely sensed something familliar about the officer that had approached him. It was almost impossible for him to match this Lt. to the otter who had engaged Shadow in a duel of wills 2 weeks prior... well, except for the otter part. That one was a dead giveaway.

"A bit late to say he's getting ready, isn't it?" Sonic responded with a similar level of volume. This was why he hated coming here. He couldn't just say the problem out loud for some reason. Why keep these guys in the dark? Still, he needed to be on their good side today. "More like major cities are in imminent danger and I guess you guys can't even tell yet. If I you won't talk here then we'd better get elsewhere, fast. Tails needs a major favour."

RE: Heroes Unite?
"Imminent?" Slick didn't expect that one. Ever since Sonic first arrived the higher-ups have been on high alert. The intelligence divisions especially have been feverishly monitoring any major targets for any signs of activity but so far, nothing.

But, given the hedgehogs abilities and his off-the-cuff ways of, its still possible he knows something that GUN doesn't. "Which cities? When? And... what kind of favour are you asking? Its not like you and your people to ask us for help."

RE: Heroes Unite?
"You've got that right," Sonic conceded to Slick's last words with a grin. He was much more a do-it-yourself kind of guy, especially considering he had no military rank and was, as called when he first arrived here, just a civilian with no authority to be asking favours. "But my little buddy said asking you guys was the only chance we had of getting a Chaos Emerald in time, so I trusted him. Tails somehow found out about a new super-weapon targeting Station Square and says he needs one to get his latest invention going in time to stop it!"

The mix of urgency and relaxation in Sonic's mannerisms and tone were certainly in-character for the well-known hedgehog. Lying was almost out of the question. As far as he was concerned people's lives were at stake and Tails needed GUN's help , now, to prevent it.

... despite the fact that Tails had not said any such thing to him before he left.

RE: Heroes Unite?
Slick's eyes nearly jumped out of his skull when Sonic told him why he was here. "YOU- WHAT?? A chaos emerald!! Look Sonic, I may be just a lieutenant and not a general, but I think I'd be pretty safe to say that even if you are right and Robotnik is targeting Station Square, there is NO WAY that GUN is going to willingly let go of a high priority asset like a chaos emerald. Especially since its the only emerald we have, and that thing is currently hunkered down eight levels below ground in a reinforced bunker powering the majority of the base. If we had a spare, we might be more at liberty to offer you one, but I greatly doubt we'd do so now. If you know what Robotnik is planning, why don't we launch a preemptive strike? We'd be more than happy to help you in that respect. Hell, I'd lead the charge."
