SCCA Autocross
Like many of you know...I got a new car about six months ago, and I've always wanted to see what it could do outside of normal driving conditions.

Well...I found out there's an Arkansas chapter of the Sports Car Club of America, and they're holding an autocross event at a stadium in my area on September 19.

In case you don't know what autocross is, I'll give you a brief description: cones are arranged in a large paved area (like a stadium parking lot or an airstrip) to form a small race course. Drivers take turns driving through the course, trying to get the fastest time without hitting any cones.

Anyway, this sounds like a great opportunity to drive my car fast in a safe environment. So, wish me and my '08 Pontiac G8 GT good luck if you don't mind ^^;;

RE: SCCA Autocross
Thanks Qesun.

And actually, you may be able to try autocross yourself. The SCCA has chapters that hold events all over the US, so there might be one close to you holding events.

As long as you don't drive an SUV or a truck (they're prone to tipping over under hard cornering of course) you can pretty much get in with any make or model of car. Your car just has to be able to pass a safety technical inspection, and you're good to go. Just make sure the event you're driving in doesn't require you to have an SCCA membership.

If anyone's interested, I brought back some pics from the event this weekend. Just so you know...I finished next to last out of the entire field. I was told that my lines were very good (Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport helped with that). I just need to work up the courage to go faster.

Fear held back my speed quite a bit, considering I did pay $23,000 for this car. Granted, the only thing to hit is cones out there, but it will just take a while for me to become brave enough to mash the gas hard.
