Jylat - Starting Over Again
[Recapping]

Alindel gave a small nod and settled herself into a seat next to Dromar. For a moment she remained quiet, studying him with a curious expression. "I hope you aren't mad at me," she spoke at length, "I heard Jodie's croaking voice from outside and thought things had gone far enough. She needs rest with her condition after all."

RE: Jylat - Starting Over Again
Dromar kept to his scowl. His eyes drew back to the doorway, but he didn't budge from his seat. Instead, he refocused on Alindel.

"I know. I've been the one lookin' after her these past two weeks. Your fiance better know what he's doin', too. If this ends up makin' things worse..."

He flashed his set of jaws a wink of a second.

Alindel withdrew ever so slightly before regaining her composure, turning to look at Dromar fully. "You can trust Links...I've not met anyone who has even come close to being as skilled as he is. And if you don't mind me saying, without his help things do not look very good for Jodie."

She paused for a moment, taking a slow breath, "Why do you distruct magic so much?"

RE: Jylat - Starting Over Again
"I think it's'all of what is there to not distrust about it. Without it, I'm sure a buncha folks would be better off right now. Yeah, Sonic has been up to savin' the day the past seventeen years since with those emeralds, but look how bads things have up and gotten when it's been in the wrong hands."

Dromar shook his head and stared hard at the far wall.

"And it's not just that. Since it's so rare these days, the ones that dog gone have it get targeted. If I'd known this sooner, I would'a kept a better eye on her. Who knows who she's told and what she's gone and done with it. But if it just so happened to be the wrong kinda person..."

RE: Jylat - Starting Over Again
Alindel gave a small nod and stayed silent for a moment before replying, "I can...understand how you feel. You may not be blood relations but I can see how deeply you care for her. You need not worry about her safety, while she remains in Jylat I am sure that Links will do all in his power to protect her. He has of course been keeping a watchful eye over the entire village for years now."

Alindel paused, seemingly drifting off into some of her own thoughts for a moment. Slowly a shadow passed over her face and her head dropped with a sigh. "I do share your concern however, magic is a burden that can prove to be dangerous and unpredictable. I just hope that in her case it won't lead to any unpleasantries..."

RE: Jylat - Starting Over Again
"Ya sound like ya speak from personal experience."

Dromar glanced back Alindel's way. His eyes had softened. From close up, it was easy to read the red lines competing with his gold irises. His shoulders had fallen from their tightened position and the bite in his tone less recognized. But then the evening had found itself fast within the household... Mostly due to the earlier silence they had shared for a while after Jodie had disappeared.

[Since it took us so long to go with it with these guys, I'm assuming they spent time silently brooding. ;D]

RE: Jylat - Starting Over Again
Alindel twisted her lips slightly and gave a small nod. "I am..."

Alindel didn't continue, she simply sat still and stared at the wall opposite for a good number of seconds before turning to look at Dromar. She looked calm but upon closer expection one might see a hint of anger lingering behind her smile.

"I'm the youngest of three in my family. My two sisters are twins and about ten years older than me. I looked up to them all my life and wanted to be just like them. Things seemed so easy for them...they even managed a double wedding. I grew up watching them enjoy family life and wanted so much to be like that."

Alindel took a deep breath and looked away, "My first marriage didn't go well. He was nice enough for a few months after the wedding but he slowly got more and more distant. Eventually I found him in bed with another woman...it ended a few days later."

"For the longest time after that I didn't trust anyone, didn't want to be hurt again...but deep down I still wanted a family. Then I met Links, he was gentle and kind once I broke through his shell...and he returned my love. I thought I'd finally get my chance at a happy family...but it's never happened...because of his magic."

"It's so much a part of him that nothing else can be. He can't father a child...ever. And now its too late to do anything else. Even if I wanted to raise a child I'm too old to give it the proper attention and it wouldn't be Links' child either."

She turned to look back at Dromar. "So as you can imagine, I know very well how painful magic can be...however, that should never come between you and those you care about. Links may never be able to give me the family I have always wanted...but I still love him and I'd do anything to help him. If you care for Jodie as much as I think you do you shouldn't let this new situation disrupt that...she needs you're support more than ever right now. I hope that Links can help her to control her powers before they overwhelm her...but even if he does she is still going to need you to help her come to terms with her new life and to support her through the rough patches."

RE: Jylat - Starting Over Again
Dromar hadn't really expected a sudden indulgence into her past. He had a feeling there was something peculiar. An underlying meaning in her words. But the sudden explanation caught him off guard. So, he sat there and stared... and continued to stare. He found his hands thumbing his pockets and then...

CRASH.

Dromar jolted to his feet in an instant as the power zapped out.

"What was that!"

His words strained from a yell. He could hear shouting below. Something about getting down... Dromar didn't know what was going on down there, but he had a bad feeling. Jylat wasn't exactly a place known for regular burglary but then very unregular things had been happening to he and his fostered teenagers since two weeks before. He looked back in the general direction of Alindel. His vision was well impaired with the lights out but that did nil to his sense of smell.

"Stay here," he hissed before pointing to the chair, "and barricade the door with that."

He stuck his head out the door and sniffed. Clear. Dromar proceeded down the long hallway, keeping to a wall.

_______

'Is it evening already...? When did I...? And what was that...?'

That hazy feeling of a lingering dream brimmed my eyes. I'd heard something. I wasn't sure what, but it had awoken me. Maybe Crosis was being a klutz again. It seemed like a reoccurring role of his. I sighed and reached over to try and find the pull string for the lamp which sat on the nightstand next to the bed. Funny, I hadn't remembered turning it off, but then I'd been so tired there wasn't much I did recall before I had hit the hay. Finding the sucker, I yanked it and heard a click. Nothing. Yanked again. No dice.

'A power outage? Great.'

It wasn't so bad when you had eyes like mine, but it was an inconvenience no less. I climbed off my bed and tucked on my sneakers to avoid the cold of the hardwood floor in the hallway. It was the worst! Then, I headed out of the room and down the hall.

RE: Jylat - Starting Over Again
Alindel was equally shocked, the feline sitting rigid in her seat for a moment before Dromar got up. Her ears flicked, catching the sounds drifting up the stairs as the power went out. She jumped to her feet a few moments after Dromar and followed him to the door stopping as Dromar did.

She paused as Dromar headed out of the room, glancing back at the chair and then to the door. For a moment she stood still and thought before finally making up her mind and slipping from the room after Dromar.

RE: Jylat - Starting Over Again
[I assume that I might as well post in here unless you guys just made this thread for your own side discussion. If not let me know and I'll delete the post.]

Two more four-man squads of black clad intruders burst through the main door of the house and quickly made their way down the corridors. The first pair stepped up beside the first door in the hallway while the second pair did the same with the next door. As unison, the soldier closest to the door handle slammed their boot into the door, breaking the door wide open. The second quickly raced inside and the first followed quickly after.

A moment later, both teams called out: "Clear!" Both teams re-entered the hallway and made their way towards the next set of doors. Again and again they repeat the violent room entries. Then they reach the stairs and as one team they swiftly climb the stairs with their weapon-mounted flashlights pointing straight ahead.

Up stairs, anyone in the hallway would easily see the glow of the intruder's flashlights against the wall as the team ascended the stairs. They had only a few moments before the team would reach the top of the stairs.
