[Shadow]

The countryside flew by faster than the eye could follow as Shadow shot past it, with dust, grass, and leaves blowing up in the turbulence of his wake. The sun beat down on him, but the wind whipping around him kept him cool. Forests, plains, hills, mountains, all of it passed in a blur that Shadow barely noticed, the colors of the scenery blending into a green-grey haze from which almost nothing of the actual environment could be discerned. After a while Shadow didn’t even notice if he was running on land anymore, resulting in crossing a number of lakes without even realizing. All Shadow could think about was what had happened back at Never Lake, his new personal mission, and, most of all, just what exactly he was going to do when he reached his destination.

It wasn’t very long at all before the bustling metropolis that was Station Square loomed into view on the horizon. Shadow had quickly decided he’d have to risk it, because there was a far higher chance of finding Rouge or information on her whereabouts in Station Square than anywhere else he could look. Besides, if he was going to be a hero now he couldn’t hide away from civilization forever. Sooner or later he’d have to return, GUN would have to find out he survived (if Slick hadn’t told them already) and the public would have to learn the truth and accept him, or reject him, as the case may be. It was a tough decision, but he couldn’t just wait for Rouge to find him. He needed his bracelet back as soon as possible, by any means possible, even if that meant he had to deal with the military, a frightened public, and, worst of all, the paparazzi.

But Shadow had decided he’d cross those bridges when he came to them. The first step was just to get there and start looking for Rouge. The city loomed ever closer, growing in Shadow’s vision as he approached it.
