Jylat - Starting Over

RE: Jylat - Starting Over
Links had spun in his seat and stood up by the time the men had leaped in through the window. His fur bristles with a multitude of colours, each sparking sharply as his magic reacted to his sudden surprise. In the dark it was hard to make out how many men there were...but there were a lot.

A static crackle ran up his left arm, his magic now in a state of full alert and his hand wrapped firmly around his staff. He wasn't sure about many of the people around him, Jodie's foster family didn't look the type to fight, they seemed like a regular family.

If he had been 20 years younger he may have jumped straight at the unknown men...but he knew his limits and this was not looking favourable. Still Links' wasn't going to let something bad happen while he was around and quickly stepped forwards.

He swung his staff up in front of him in a ready status, lines of magical energy crackling around the tip, their colour matching the lines that ran through his fur. He stood still, standing firm but for the moment holding back any kind of attack.

RE: Jylat - Starting Over
Esmeralda didn't even manage a chance to reply as the windows shattered. Glass shards had rained only a couple feet short of the group inside the dining room, but the lighting left her hesitant. A mix of confusion, fear, and anger held fast to the beating heart in her chest. She froze before submitting herself to the floor. Crosis remained standing.

"Crosis," she hissed, "Get down! You're too old to play hero! Rios, get down!"

But Crosis wouldn't stand down. He held fast in his spot near Links, despite their only light being the flashlights of those around them fastened to one of the last things anyone would want to have pointed at them.

Rios, himself, remained uncertain of what to do with his legs the way they were. Only when he heard a door crash open elsewhere did he slump himself onto the ground.

RE: Jylat - Starting Over
Nail had paused for a moment when he saw the shoulder pads of that soldier hiding behind the window. He started to speak.

"What...?"

But before he could finish, the lights went out and the window shattered from the thrown grenades or whatever they were.

They're after me, was his immediate thought. Why would they be after anyone else here? I have to run...to lure them away from the others. Nail knew he had many enemies, and from that brief glance and the way they talked, these guys seemed to be military or a swat team. And he had definitely pissed off GUN majorly at least one time before...the incident where he lost half of his tail.

So as the cylinders thumped on the floor, he spun around in his chair and dashed for the kitchen door, running like hell the entire time. He had a general idea of what direction to run in, not to mention he caught brief glimpses of the door every time the soldiers waved their flashlights around.

[Just to give you guys an easier time visualizing the home, here is a very quick layout I made in paint. XD; There are more spare rooms than shown on the second floor. This is just to give an idea overall though of important places and blah blah. Red pacmans are doors out of the house. Any questions?
P.S. Whatever happened to Chadin? XD; Anyone know?

RE: Jylat - Starting Over
[Oops, sorry guys, was hoping for Laurelle would post, but I guess better to keep things rolling. Oh, and just to clear things up, there were no objects thrown through the windows, just the gunmen jumped through.]

The strangers quickly fanned out around the room, intentionally waving their flashlight beams into the eyes of anyone to screw up the fur's superior night-vision. They also didn't stop shouting. One man each kept their weapon trained on Rios and Esmeralda.

In all the initial confusion, the strangers failed to notice Nail beat a hasty exit and were too occupied with the group in the dining room.

"GET DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW!!!!" One soldier shouted barely a metre in front of Rios with his weapon poised and ready. When it became clear Rios wouldn't back down, the black-clad man moved in to slam grip of his weapon into the side of Rios' face.

Meanwhile, Links would find himself surrounded by at least three more of these strangers. "DROP THE STAFF AND PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HEAD!!!" One man continued to shout angrily. They seemed far more cautious with Links than the other man had been towards Rios. They weren't taking any chances and were ready to fire if given the incentive.

RE: Jylat - Starting Over
Links stood firm, his eyes closed and his head bowed slightly. It was useless using his eyes in the mash of flashing torches...not that he had to see his attackers, they were all around him. In his mind a battle was being fought, surrender or fight? If it had simply been himself he may have surrendered...but other lives were in danger right now. He may not know them but they seemed like good people and there was no reason for the sudden attack...unless...the mercenary? He had only just mentioned it but it could be that...but what if it was...

"Forgive me Alindel..." he thought to himself as hisfur gave a soft icy blue glow.

He couldn't use his full power in such a closed environment, nor would he want to even if he could, but he couldn't sit still and watch these people hurt. Time had passed, he was now in command...no more mistakes.

"Ice Tornado!" [Note: Elemental Tornado (Ice Element)]

Even before his words had finished leaving his mouth the wind had picked up, swirling in a mass around the blue fox. A cracking tinkling filled the air as ice shards joined the blowing gale. It took but a moment, Links spell reaching its full potency in a split second before firing off in the direction of one of the men, its path leading it through him if he didn't move and then skimming past Crosis, aiming for the man after him.

Links knew it was a dangerous move...he still had another two men to deal with even if his spell hit home.

RE: Jylat - Starting Over
Esmeralda snarled as Rios was slammed in the face. He had already been on the way to the ground and found himself slumping the rest of the way. His jaw was burning and he could feel his eyes tearing from the pain. He remained as he was on the ground for the time being.

In the meantime, Crosis used Links' spell as a distraction for his own actions. He grabbed the nearest chair he could reach and flung it hard at one of the soldiers that Links hadn't targeted. He was shivering slightly now due to the sudden temperature change in the room, his eyes were fogged up, and his sense of smell did little to help when it was being confused by so many other unfamiliar ones in the room. Even so, he'd try.

RE: Jylat - Starting Over
Laurelle still on the floor attempts to squirm under the table, before daring to look out. Partially hidden and in shadow, she feels confident enough to slowly edge towards Rios, when she can make him out through the flashing lights and disorienting noise. If she can touch him whilst remaining hidden and down, she'll begin to pour her calming, pain relieving aura into him as best she can right now.

RE: Jylat - Starting Over
As Nail entered the kitchen, he suddenly spun around upon hearing Links's cry, followed up by the howling of the wind. He couldn't help but to run back to the kitchen door to look at what was happening. He couldn't see much, but magic definitely seemed to be at work. Looked like he was correct. There was something unique about that blue fox, and now he knew. Looks like these guys could hold their own with Links at their back. Perhaps I can stick around after all, he thought, as he drew out his FN Five seveN.

He still couldn't see well, and the room was a mosh pit of noise and movement, but the flashlights were a dead giveaway to the location of the soldiers. To avoid hitting his friends, he decided to aim at one on the far right of the room, the one most distanced from the group. Nail squeezed the trigger twice at the light over there. Hopefully, the armor piercing 5.7mm round would do the trick in passing through the guy's armor.

RE: Jylat - Starting Over
[oops, sorry, yes, the guy standing up, Crosis, was supposed to be the one to get hit in the face.]

The human never got the chance to react as the ice shards speared straight through him into his soft flesh. Combined with the howling gale, the man was already dead as his body flew through the air into the second man in front of Crosis. Both men tumbled to the ground but the second was still very much alive. He struggled to draw his weapon from beneath the weight of his dead comrade but it would only take a few moments before his weapon was drawn.

The man Nail took aim at was already too occupied with the others in the room to notice Nail and before he knew it two solid cracks of Nail's 5.7mm rounds broke clean through his helmet, dropping him dead.

But his gun shots now alerted the rest of the men, and the one standing over Rios and Esmeralda looked up with flashlight in tow and quickly picked out Nail with the blinding beam. "IT'S STRAFER!!! GET HIM!!!" Without further hesitation, the man sighted his weapon and fired.

But instead of bullets, streaks of dark blue light erupted from the weapon, its noise all but eliminated apart from the faint kapow! Surprisingly, the energy shots did little to through off the men's night vision, the energy shots were more akin to the dim illumination of a glow stick, but Nail still had a flashlight blaring his eyes now.

And to make matters worse, the loud trampling of hard combat boots on solid wood preceded the sight of four more men smashed their way into the dining room from the hall way. Guns and spot lights quickly trained in on Nail's position and fired. If he didn't get out of the way, he was in for a world of hurt.

The other two men standing around Links quickly jumped into action as they fired from nearly point-blank range a trio of the same blue energy beams towards Links. Should he be hit however, Links might be surprised to find that rather than dealing lethal damage, the blots delivered blinding pain, but without causing serious lasting damage. One or two he could probably endure, but take too many and Links might find himself thrown into shock and knocked unconscious by that alone.
