A New Beginning

RE: A New Beginning
Shadow's eyes widened as he glanced at his bare wrist. "Of course!" he said with a tone of incredulity. "That's why I can't control my temper, and why my powers are fluctuating." Shadow looked up at Sonic. "Those bracelets help me to control my power! I've been missing one, so it's thrown my powers out of whack, and that causes other problems, like my temper. I need that other bracelet!"

RE: A New Beginning
Sure Sonic didn't live a life anywhere close to normal... but that was still an unexpected outburst.

"Are you serious?" the blue asked with at least some honesty mixed in with simple disbelief. "That's why you've been off since you got back?"

The hero crossed his arms but his face was steady. As said before, Sonic didn't live a normal life where only the expected happened every day.

"Well, you'll have to try and find Rouge then. I gave it to her when I got back to the ARK."

RE: A New Beginning
Shadow shook his and crossed his arms again. "I'm... sorry about that little outburst. You shouldn't necessarily have heard that," the black hedgehog said. "But what's done is done."

Rouge. So the bat had his bracelet, eh? It'd be easy enough to get it when he found her, since they'd worked together before. And if she said no, he could always call in the "saved your life on Prison Island" favor. The question was whether or not he could find her. Shadow could have all the speed in the world, but that thieving bat was clever, and her government buddies would probably make things difficult as well, especially considering his unsure footing with GUN after the little argument in the dropship.

"I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to this, but you wouldn't happen to have any idea where she is, would you?" Shadow asked his fellow speedster. "I don't particularly relish the idea of trying to track her down."

RE: A New Beginning
It sort of amused Sonic how Shadow was trying to cover up for his moment of revelation by acting serious and formal again. He just smiled and then gave the you-knew-the-answer shrug. Sonic hadn't exactly "known" Rouge 2 years ago and they weren't exactly friends now either.

"Sorry Shadow, I'm not exactly one to keep tabs on people. Although..." Sonic's eyes flashed to behind his black lookalike where the red Chaos Emerald had been tucked away before refocusing again. "... you are carrying pretty good bait with you. If that Slick guy's report goes through her ears she'll probably come to find you herself."

The hero took a moment of ease and closed his eyes in a friendly smile before reaching out to touch Shadow's right shoulder with his left hand, as if they were supposed to be pals now or something.

"So if one missing bracelet makes your powers so unreliable then does that mean you wouldn't even be able to use them without the other?" he asked cheekily, as if he had just found out maybe his great rival of the past wasn't as ultimate as he thought and more down to Sonic's own mortal level.

RE: A New Beginning
"I told you, you shouldn't have heard what you did, so you aren't getting anything else out of me. I don't care how chummy we get, I still have my secrets." Shadow's tone was all serious, but when he finished he cracked a smirk. He didn't mind if Sonic thought he was powerless without his bracelets, in fact, he kind of liked the idea. After all, as good as their relations seemed to be now, Shadow had no intention of letting Sonic's victory here go unchallenged forever, and it would help to keep a couple aces up his sleeve.

Sonic was right about finding Rouge, though. Word would inevitably get around that Shadow had a Chaos Emerald, and then Rouge would come like moth to a light. She never could resist anything that was shiny and valuable.

RE: A New Beginning
"So we're almost pals now?" Sonic retorted as he let go of the smirking Shadow with one of his own. "Well then, nice to know it was more than just the sight of me that was ticking you off all this time, buddy."

Sonic almost needed a longer breather before taking off again after enduring so many Chaos Spears head-on, Triple S Spin or not. Still, he was pretty sure Shadow's anger at him wasn't entirely because of the missing accessory. Sonic and Knux still managed to grind on each others nerves at length when the chance arose and they had been friends for years now. Competitive, proud people will always be that way with each other. True Blue walked towards the edge of the cliff and stretched his arms upwards, preparing for as showy an exit he could manage.

"I guess I'll stop disrupting your peace and quiet for now. Coming up here turned out to be more than a wild goose chase after all," he said, sounding quire pleased.

RE: A New Beginning
Shadow turned away, shaking out his legs and stretching his arms in preparation for his own exit. He had no real reason to stay here anymore, with his quiet revere quite shattered. Not to mention he had a certain bat to catch.

"Don't worry about my peace and quiet, I think I'm done with that for now," Shadow said. "That little spar got my blood pumping, so I think I'll go for a run too. The black hedgehog turned back to his blue counterpart and his smirk faded, leaving his face blank and buisnesslike. "I guess this is goodbye then," he said cooly. "Just remember, I'll be back for a rematch once I get my bracelet back, and things are going to go quite differently."

RE: A New Beginning
"I'm ready any time you need another round," Sonic said daringly, knowing full well that Shadow had already been enough of a force to be reckoned with to topple most... but he was "most". Not by a long shot. "But hey, next time we meet up maybe something a little less painful would be good too."

The blue blur chuckled to himself, gave Shadow a thumbs up and wink, the leaped off the side of the cliff to fall down along it before letting his feet collide so the hedgehog could run straight down. He took the 90 degree angle at the base of the cliff without breaking pace and rocketed off into the distance.

RE: A New Beginning
Shadow shook his head, smirking as Sonic rocketed off into the distance. I guess it's about time for me to be moving on, too, the black hedgehog thought to himself, turning away from the direction his counterpart had gone. But where to go?

Shadow knew what he would be doing for certain: he'd be hunting down Rouge to get his bracelet back. Like Sonic had said, once she caught wind of his emerald she'd probably find him, but he couldn't exactly stand idle until then, and finding her was at the very least something to do. How he'd find her was a whole other story.

The way he saw it, he had four possible courses of action. First, he could head to Station Square and the GUN headquarters on Prison Island, and try to get information on her wherabouts from the people most likely to know. Considering his current shaky standing with GUN and the public in general, this could easily be the riskiest route. He could also search out Robotnik, who might have information regarding their former mutal partner. Of course, if he journied to his hidden bases this time he would probably be regarded as an enemy and have to fight his way in, which would be annoying. His third option would be to contact Maria. Though she wasn't exactly a higher up in the GUN hierarchy, she might still have some info, though he didn't relish the idea of using his best friend for his own ends. Finally, he could always find Knuckles, who'd seemed to be a little closer to Rouge than anyone else had been on Sonic's side of their previous conflict. It was a long shot, but he might have wind of her wherabouts, especially if she had tried again to steal his Master Emerald. After their encounter in Capitol however Shadow expected there to be at least a fight before he could get anything from the stubborn echidna.

Four options, in four completely different directions, each with their own pros and cons. But which to choose?

Well, standing here for a few more hours won't help, and this place has kind of lost it's charm after my fight with Sonic, Shadow thought. I might as well just start running and see where my feet take me. Shadow grimaced and shook his head. I shouldn't have spent so much time with that blue nuicance. I'm even starting to sound like him!

With that closing thought, Shadow's Air Shoes fired a burst that propelled him forward, taking him from zero to hundreds of miles per hour in seconds. He shot off like a jet, skating across the ground at insane speeds, and in moments he had left the lake far behind.

[Exit]
