Shade
Name: Alucio Equinox

Alias: Shade

age: 22

sex: male

species: Wolf / Human hybrid

alignment: hero

occupation: none

Appearance:
weight: 190 lbs
height: 5' 3''
fur: White
eyes: amber
other: Shade's a white anthropomorphic werewolf-like being, he has a head identical to that of an actual wolfs, the body of a normal furry, wolven tail, and legs that are jointed in two places like the hind legs of a wolf. He's more wolf like than he is human and is often the brunt of werewolf jokes. What he's wearing just depends on what he's doing.

personality: He's short tempered, immature, fun-loving, loyal, and is lacking somewhat as far as his manners go due to growing up in the mountains of western isle. He's so far been able to stomp down his immaturity and get his priorities straight in time to save those who are in need of some saving. Shade is a very compassionate fellow. The stories from his mother about the vicious murder of his father has left him with a need to protect those who are in need regardless of who or what they may be. He feels that all beings, regardless of background, have a tremendous capacity for good and are thus worth preserving.
But simply because he values every persons life to the point of putting his own on the line to preserve them; doesn't mean that he won't take lives to save you. Shade has few allies and even fewer friends, those he has he holds dear and will fight to death to protect them. (even if he won't admit they're his friends). There are only two things that upset or scare him in this world. The first obviously being the murder of his father at the hands of his brother who he has vowed to confront one day and take vengeance for his father. The second being his tremendous fear of death, not of his own passing, but that of those he cherishes. To be more exact it's a fear of being left alone in a wild world with no one to turn to when things become too overwhelming for him to bear. With the support of someone by his side, just the mere fact that they're there with him to whatever end is enough to stir his spirit and give him the strength & courage to face anything.

Family: Ariel Equinox (mother), Yinko Equinox (father - deceased), Iago Equinox (older half brother), Rya Equinox (older half sister).

NPC's:

Name: Ariel Equinox

Relation: mother

Age: 50

sex: female

species: human

appearance: She stands at six foot one, has black hair and hzl eyes.

personality: kind hearted and gentle. She has a bit of an attitude problem

background: Born on a farm near never lake, attended grammer and high school then moved on to medical school. After graduating from medical school, she moved to capitol city to work as a surgeon where she met Calob. They fell in love and got married but Ariel soon found that Calob was a very abusive husband which resulted in Ariel running away. She was in such a horrible emotional state that she planed to end it in the jungle by taking her own life. She tried to end her life by attacking a bear hoping it would kill her, it attacked her but left her alive. She moved on deeper into the forest. (Back history takes it from here)

skills:
Is very knowledgeable of human and furry anatomy. She can perform various types of medical procedures.

She is skilled with photomagic.

Transport: none

Abilities:
Combat: intermediate
Ranged: none
Magic: Advanced

Fighting style: Magic primarily.

Weapons:
Claws
Fangs

Residence:
Where ever he can crash

Moves:
* Note that during battle his magical aura is dependent on one crucial thing, calaries. He burns calaries while using magic, it's his auras gas tank more or less. A battle, to Shade, is something like lifting weights at the gym for a while hence why he's never been able to get fat. ( I bet if this were real there'd be a lot of people who would try this style of magic as a diet plan XD) For instance if he goes into battle after just eating and a good nap, he will be able to pull off his special moves more often than he could when he's sitting on empty and fatigued. He can restore himself back to full power after a good meal and several hours of sleep, unless he'd been injured or something of that nature in which case it could take days.*

Flash bang (defensive): Shade excites the air around him, creating an intense light, temporarily blinding others with unshielded eyes within twenty yards of his position (unless located indoors which could amplify and increase it's range, or dull and decrease it's range). It can also double as a flare to help him get the attention of rescuers or otherwise over long distances (the flash can be seen for miles, especially at night). ~ this takes a lot of energy and can only be used twice every 8 turns and takes 4 turns after using one to re-charge from using it, he risks losing consciousness otherwise. Using one will leave him woozy but still able to run or maybe carry out a moderately powerful attack. Using 2 within 8 turns will leave him on the brink of passing out. ( Basically if he has two of these attacks and he uses one, it'll take 4 turns to get that one back. likewise it will take 8 turns to restore it back to two if he uses it twice.) Number of times he can use this in battle:

Empty stomach: one time per battle

full stomach: twice per battle but there is a dangerously high risk of incapacitation by using it twice, even with a full stomach.

Shadow (defensive): Shade can absorb light reflecting off of himself so that others cannot see him in any spectrum of light. That said, he cannot attack effectively while invisible (explained in history) and this move does not hide his scent or the sounds he makes. (This move can be used for 2 turns and takes 4 turns to re-charge. He can keep using this move until his aura is depleted. How long his aura lasts depends on many factors but on average he'd be able to pull this off 2 times every 8 turns without the danger of draining his aura. If he does have to use it more than twice in 8 turns he puts himself in danger of passing out, a death sentence in the heat of battle)

Empty stomach: twice per battle

full stomach: thee times per battle

Laser strike (offensive): Shade can generate a high intensity laser using one or both of his hands as a focus point for the beam. This laser can pierce through flesh, bone, kevlar, leather, fabric body armor, and other soft objects if charged to its highest intensity. He can adjust the intensity of this attack to stun, incapacitate, or kill someone. It will not, however, pierce through any glossy objects regardless of thickness or strength such as mirrors, glossed up cars, or anything of that nature. It will also not pierce through metal for the simple fact that most metals are naturally glossy to an extent and are usually to hard for a laser of Shade's caliber to penetrate through them. And on one final note, these bolts can also be deflected by a strong electromagnetic field. ( An instantaneous bolt or beam will do light damage to soft objects and stun people, it'll knock the wind out of you and possibly knock you off your feet. To incapacitate an opponent will take 2 turns of charging during which his best hope is to simply stay hidden or, if already engaged, dodge attacks until ready to strike. To kill someone takes a whopping 4 turns to charge. This level of intensity will usually be put into a beam and drug across enemy ranks. It will slice through a person as though they weren't even there unless they have some sort of reflective armor.

* note: using a basic laser strike ( an insta-bolt/beam ) will take a long time to drain his aura because they are relatively weak and take next to no energy to generate the following is applicable only to incapacitation & lethal bolts/beams.*

empty stomach: two times per battle

full stomach: three times per battle

Illusion ( defensive ): This move makes up about 98% of Shade's magic use. In this move, he can make just about anything appear to happen up until a certain distance (30 yards horizontally and vertically). This move can't harm you in any way, it's basically psychological warfare. (ex. A group of thugs attack Shade in an alleyway. In response he makes a horde of psychotic knife bearing clowns appear out from behind a building and chase after them in their miniature wind up cars. The clowns can't harm them because they're not really there....but the thugs don't know that ^^.) Although he can make things around him appear different. He cannot change his own appearance for a reason that even eludes Shade himself. This move has one more limitation: it won't work PERIOD in the presence of a strong electromagnetic field generated by nuclear power plants, underneath industrial power lines, exploded transformers, or near the poles of the planet. (Think life-like 3 D holograms. You can literally walk right through them.)

*this one is a tricky one, it really all depends on what he's projecting that determines how many times he can use it, so we'll just break it down a bit*

Basic illusion: ( ex. uncomplex objects such as the simulation of small hand held weapons like a knife or a handgun. Other small objects can be made as well provided they do not exceed the legnth of his forearm.) - he can keep this up for a while as it doesn't burn calaries all that fast.

Intermediate illusion: ( ex. simulated vehicles, people, walls, doors, holes in the ground, rifles, and things of that nature. )

empty stomach: four times per battle

full stomach: six times per battle

Advanced illusion: ( ex. simulated explosions, fires, monsters, black holes, and other complex objects )

Empty stomach: one time per battle.

full stomach: two times per battle.

Strengths:

Skilled sorcerer

Average fighter with his natural weapons ( claws and teeth )

Steep learning curve

Weaknesses:
He's immature and doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut.

Gullible

To compassionate and forgiving for his own good

He's short tempered and doesn't always think things through before he goes running head long into combat.

His magical abilities are weakened or may be disrupted all together in the presence of a strong electromagnetic field.

He also cannot stand extremely high frequency noises which will usually leave him on the ground in agony.

(prologue) Summary of Family history and events leading up to Shades birth:
Many years ago there was a mighty wolf tribe in the heavily forested area of the mystic ruins, it was a peaceful & thriving civilisation ruled by a noble king by the name of Yinko. He was a very compassionate ruler who believed in mercy and second chances to the point of granting pardons to covicted felons that seemed truely remorseful for what they had done.
He held strongly the belief that every individual had the right to choose their own paths and what ever path that they may choose, others had no right to judge, unless of course it threatened the kingdoms survival. Many of his council members did not share his views, his own son Iago and daughter Rya among them. Iago had a bitter distaste for how his father ran the kingdom, allowing the common folk to do and say anything to anyone they pleased without consequences. He kept his mouth shut for only the fact that the kingdom was thriving and, in the end, that was their job to ensure that that continued.
That was to change however when a human woman by the name of Ariel sinclare arrived in the village half dead after some sort of animal attack. Yinko commanded that she receive the best of care they could provide her with and he saw to it personally that she did, staying by her side almost constantly. He talked with her for hours on end about her life, the outside world, and various other subjects.
It turned out that Ariel had escaped from an abusive husband who had mistreated her their whole marriage. She had run away after she couldn't take anymore of the abuse, she'd lived on the streets for about eight months before coming out to the mystic ruins to find a good place to end her life. Yinko assured her that that would not be necessary, she could live there with the wolves in the mystic ruins and he promised he would nay allow anyone abuse her ever again. When Iago found out that a HUMAN was going to be living among them, rage didn't do justice to how he was feeling. After many hours of argument with his sister Rya he agreed that she could stay although he was still angry over the situation.
Rya didn't see what the fuss was about, Iago hated it because it was down right unnatural for a human to be living among furs, there was just something not right about it. But he would tolerate her as long as she didn't cause problems. Yinko visited her very often, sometimes at odd times during the night to have her come watch the stars with him. As the months passed the two realized they had fallen for one another and announced to the kingdom that they were going to have their mating ceremony. It was a huge party with the entire kingdom turned into the worlds largest kegger XD.
There was however one party pooper Iago, who of course drug his sister into it, his father had gone TOO FAR this time! He had kept his tongue behind his teeth too long, it was time to act and take back control of the kingdom before it was to late. For the next ten years he spent slithering around behind the scenes recruiting fellow council members with bribes and promises of fortune under his rule. Soon the time would be right and they'd strike.
Meanwhile Yinko was teaching Ariel how to use the jewel of their people, light magic. It was difficult at first but with a little shove here and there from Yinko, she quickly became quite formidable with this art inside the decade (the last month of which she became pregnant with Shade). The two seemed to have it all, everything was just perfect in every conceivable way. But this was not to last Iago, after a decade of plotting, had gained enough support from his peers and underlings to launch an assault against the kingdom with a good chance of overwhelming it. In the dead of a cool October night (Halloween) they made their move. They stormed the royal lodge, killing the king, and taking Ariel prisoner for the time being.
Iago eventually agreed to let the former queen leave after many of his former peers pleaded with him to spare her yinko's fate. They may have disliked her husband but she herself was not to blame, indeed many of them even liked her. She was banished from the kingdom for all time, if she were ever to return she would be executed immediately.
She realized months later that she was pregnant with Yinkos child and, knowing if Iago ever got wind of it he'd kill her and her child, retreated to the mountains of western island where she could raise Shade away from prying eyes. ( P.S. The kingdom didn't last very long afterwards. Iago ruled with a cruel iron fist and a revolt resulted that ended up destroying the kingdom completely but somehow Rya and Iago escaped with their lives to parts unknown.)

Biography:
Alucio Equinox was born on Western island where he and his mother took up permanent residence at the base of MT. Normal. It was here that shade took his first steps, learned his first words, and learned the difference between right and wrong, good and evil.
Ever since he was old enough to comprehend such things, shade has wanted to become a sorcerer like his mother. To be able to lasso light and bend it to his will as she did. To be able walk out onto the battle field with confidence that there was nothing that could stand in his way. But Ariel had other plans at the moment, Shade's basic education had to come first, she would not have an illiterate son on her watch.
So she made a deal with him, if he agreed to focus on his schooling first she'd teach him everything she knew about Shin-Jo light magic later on. Shade, desperately wanting to learn magic, agreed without hesitation and began studying everyday to get through his schooling as quickly as possible.
His schooling lasted for seven years ending at the age of 13 because of his constant, obsessive studying he did everyday and was only very rarely interrupted, being half furry didn't hurt either. In other words his constant studying and furry nature accelerated his schooling so that it ended way earlier than what is considered the normal time range. So it was time, shade had kept up his end of the deal now it was Ariel's turn to uphold hers.
They began with the basics, if he wanted to use magic he had to get in touch with his aura, all living things posses it, all things can use it with training. They spent many days out in the peaceful forests of western island under the bright sun meditating trying to get in touch with shade's aura, this irritated Shade greatly because he wanted to get straight to blasting things with laser beams and turning invisible.
After 45 days of meditation he finally made contact, his magical aura twirled and snaked its way through the deepest recesses of his psyche, he could feel it coursing through every nerve in his body, he and his aura were at last one. Although he had made contact and fused with his aura there was still a bit of work to do, he had his energy supply now but was unable to command it to do anything which made it utterly useless.
Even the most powerful computer in the world is useless without some sort of programing to tell it what to do. The task of controlling this energy would prove to be the hardest thing to master, to be able to tap into and concentrate this energy and will it to do something would prove itself a pain in the backside. He spent six months struggling to form a weak laser which he just couldn't seem to do. His mother saw his confidence fading and his frustration growing and became worried herself.
She contemplated what she could do for many days until she remembered a trick her old master (Yinko) pulled on her to bring her power out for the first time. The next day she had Shade accompany her to the ocean for a day of meditating, on the way back the two were attacked by a grizzly bear. Ariel was caught off guard and was knocked unconscious when the creature slapped the taste out of her mouth sending her flying into a tree. The animal moved to finish her off but Shade wasn't going allow that to happen without a fight, he charged the animal with his claws but the animal saw him and swung it's 8'' razor sharp claws in a wide arc attempting to slice Shade in half. Shade dodged by ducking and then catapulting himself backwards with his legs to put some distance between him and the bear. The bear turned back to his unconscious mother, his mother was going to die because he wasn't strong enough to save her, why was this happening, this wasn't fair...IT WASN'T FAIR!!!!
He felt his forearms and his eyes become scorching hot, like a fire was blazing furiously inside his veins. He was going to do something, even he didn't know exactly what he was about to unleash but one way or another he was to kill this monster if it was the last thing he ever did, his mothers life depended on it! The burning feeling in his forearms moved into the palms of his hands where a bright point of blue light formed inside each of his hands and shown between his fingers. With all his hatred, rage, and love he let loose two beams of light that impacted the ground just under the bear which Shade pulled upwards sending the beams slicing through the bears body as easily as a plane through a cloud. The bear stopped what it was doing for a moment to turn and look at Shade before falling to the ground in three pieces.
He ran to see if his mother was all right only to find her alive, well, and giggling? He turned to where the bear had fallen to see two charred lines in the grass where his beams had impacted the ground, but the bear..was gone. Shade instantly knew that he'd been made a fool of, his mother had used illusion, another move he wished to learn, to make a bear attack her to push Shade over the edge and break through the barrier that had been preventing him from mastering laser strike.
He didn't like being tricked especially by his own mother who wasn't supposed to be as intelligent as he was when it came to pranks ^^. But he had done it, he had broken through the barrier, and found himself capable of using laser strike. True it needed some fine tuning, but as they say ''practice makes perfect'' and any way you slice it, it was time to move on to the next stage of his training. ( FYI, it's later on, with practice, that he learns to put these attacks into beams or bolts, and adjust the intensity of the attacks.)
The next thing he was to learn was stealth, indeed the art of becoming invisible on every spectrum of light by absorbing light on the entire spectrum. This is a skill that he is still to this day developing, it only took him a year to master becoming invisible but the problem with this move is that everything becomes blurry beyond 10 feet (like being extremely near sighted). It blinds him to the world more or less with his only guidance coming from his other senses such as touch, smell, and hearing. He also has found that he can't use other magical attacks while using this one so his only option is to go fist to fist with you. He really started sharpening this skill while evading local hill-folk with their mysterious tile weapons, and believe me when I say it came in real handy.
His skills in general also strengthened with daily sparring matches with his mother in which he learned a great deal more about magical combat as well as hand to hand combat. This is how they spent the years until, at the age of 17, his mother thought he was ready for the third step in his training. He was going to learn Illusion, a technique that was the trademark of the photomages. It was more or less taking images from your mind and projecting them into the real world on the visible spectrum of light. More or less a magic 3 D hologram. It took him ten months to just be able to project life-like images that could be mistaken for the real thing. Making them move took another year of practice and training with his mother.
Now at the age of 19 he had come along way since struggling to simply find his aura and focus it into a usable weapon, but even still, he had one last stage of training and a final test to complete. The fourth and final lesson he had left to learn was the ultimate move, it was called "Flash bang". It was called Flash bang for one very simple reason, when this technique is used the intense light also generates intense heat forcing cooler air molecules to be shoved outwards from the attacks epicenter forming a vacuum for a split second.
Half a second after the attack is finished the air rushes back towards the source (the mage) to fill in the gap left by the attack. When the air meets back at the source it generates ripples in the surrounding atmosphere that ripple back outwards from the point of impact which means sound is generated. It sounds identical to a clap of thunder, thus "Flash bang" because you see a flash (and blinded if close enough) and hear a bang. The biggest hurtle with this move was to release a lot of magical energy in all directions and blind others around you without blinding yourself as well.
The traditional trick is to form a shield over your eyes by doing the reverse of Shadow and push light away from your eyes. But seeing as fully mastering that takes a degree of control a little bit beyond himself (more towards his mothers level of mastery) he opted instead to simply close his eyes just before carrying out this attack. So an attack that would have taken him another 5 years to master only took him 3 years to master. After mastering this final stage in his training he was supposed to, by the kingdoms law, take a six month vacation.
But Shade and his immaturity wouldn't allow that, he had completed his training, he wanted it to be done NOW not later. So his mother shortened the time of rest to one month in which he agreed to and settled into this temporary rest cycle. He planned on exploring the planet after he passed the final test. He had always wondered what else was out there, he knew there was some sort of technologically advanced society out there seeing as he saw flying machines noisily soaring through the sky quite often. He planned to head in the direction the majority of the aircraft were going to see where it lead him when he left there.
He'd also seen glimpses of the outside world on a television set he...um..borrowed^^, from the local hill-folk. ( hence why they shoot at him XD). During the later half of the month of tranquility they discovered that they'd have no choice but to leave soon or die of thirst.
The river they had become reliant on for water was drying up and would probably only be around for another couple weeks or so. They'd have to pack up and leave there pretty soon and establish themselves somewhere else, perhaps bring their art to this world in the form of a Shin-joo temple. Who knew what was going to happen after they left the safety of the mountains but only time would tell.
The rest of the month passed rather quickly and before Shade knew it was time for the battle to prove himself. They picked out a field about a half mile from the cabin and there, they began the final battle.

The two stood for a good 5 minutes simply staring each other down. Until finally Ariel decided to end it and launched herself towards her son with lightening speed. Shade barely had time to react as she came speeding at him, claws at the ready. He launched himself skyward just before her claws found their mark, did a front flip with a barrel roll combo, and brought his claws down to meet his mothers back. She let her legs fall out from underneath her to dodge his attack, skidded about 12 feet, jumped back to her feet, and turned to face her son who was already launching his next assault on her. He had charged up a pair of bolts that were capable of rendering her unconscious (the object of this duel is not to kill the other, it's still considered murder if you do) if they hit her. She charged up her own bolts and launched herself at Shade as fast as she was capable of going. Shade saw this and threw his first bolt at her which she threw her own to intercept it. The two bolts met in mid-air and exploded in a fiery flash of light. She continued to charge still one bolt in her other hand. Shade was about to send his other bolt in her direction when he realized that the same thing that happened a moment before would only repeat itself leaving him without enough time to counter her melee attack that was sure to follow. He spun around charging up a much weaker bolt and once he had turned back around, keeping the more powerful one hidden, threw the bolt in her direction. She took the bait and launched her powerful bolt to block the weaker one, they met and exploded in a fiery flash of light. When her eyes returned to her son she realized that she had already lost this battle. Shade fired the bolt which screamed down range in her direction, catching Ariel across the chest sending her to the ground unconscious. Shade...had passed.

Hours later when she awoke she congratulated him on his victory and pronounced him a full fledged mage. But now there were more pressing matters to attend to...it was time to leave. They were down to their last few canisters of water and since they had neglected to go hunting they were getting short on food as well, they'd have to leave now. They slept in the cabin one last night after they'd packed what they needed. The next morning they would leave for the north, out of the mountains, and into civilization. From there...who knows.
