Ajiryn
Name: Ajiryn (ah-JEER-rin) (Flick the 'R'.)
Age: Assumed to be 16. Birthday: Unknown, but assumed Jan 4th. Sex: Male. Species: Red Fox (Small bit of Arctic from mother's side.) Appearance: ![]() Typical Red Fox phenotype, with a height of 2'11" and a very light structure. Wears standard brown leather boots, and slightly worn out black pants, with several pockets to stash money, small items, or whatever he just stole. Black knuckle gloves are a must! Top attire consists of lightweight body armor, and a black long coat, well worn but also well made for stashing pilfered goods. A brown scarf adorns the neck, and is mostly worn just for looks. Upon his head rests a black bandanna. Two slits allow for his ears to poke through, and it covers a good portion. The bandanna is used just to keep his bangs from obstructing his sight. Personality: Ajiryn is, for the most part, very cheerful and mild. He is quick to befriend new allies, and prefers groups rather than flyin' it solo. He is partial to word play, and is very quick in his thinking. Ajiryn puts up a brave, adventurous, heroic front; which doesn't really seem possible, when considering his small size. He believes it is only for the good of all that he defends those in need. Most times, by doing this, he ends up being the one that needs defending. He has a certain distrust of strangers as of late, and just plain always distrusted authority. (Which, in secret, he respects.) It isn't until after he is sure of the other person, that he opens up. Ajiryn now lives for the thrill of adventure, and he likes to think of himself as quite the adventurer. He is actually a very capable fighter, but due to his light frame, he cannot take physical hits very well. Nevertheless, he hopes to find himself a purpose in the world. Ajiryn is fascinated by combat, and is always trying to improve himself. His positive outlook on life can be a little annoying at times, and until he can see the darker sides of life, many harsh lessons and defeats await him. Ajiryn is a sly and clever one; This might be what kept him from getting himself killed all these years. Alignment: Good (for the most part). Family: Mother (deceased), Father (deadbeat, probably in Radical), Darios (older brother, currently estranged.) Transport: Has no means of transport other than, well, foot. He's been known to hitch a ride if he can, sometimes earning himself the title, 'Stowaway'. Weapons: Variety of personal creations. Image coming VERY soon. Ares Lancer - A slender, slightly battle damaged weapon that can't really be considered a gun-blade. Custom built by Ajiryn, the Ares Lancer is able to equip two types of magazines. Ares can quickly be adjusted mid-battle to fire either .50 AE rounds (mid-range) or .303 B rounds (long range). If a certain situation calls for close combat, Ares can be used as a blade. While this is Ajiryn's pride and joy, it is the least complicated and most effective of all his equipment. Though he has a good bit of knowledge about sword play, Ajiryn has little experience in the way of arms training: The former two functions of the Ares Lancer are still quite hard for him to use. Recoil from the AE and B shots put quite a bit of strain on the the blade, and there's a good chance a shot from the Ares Lancer will never strike the same place twice. The recoil will sometimes throw Ajiryn off balance, causing him to pause for a second; A drawback that could turn the tides of battle. Ares has to be light and slender in order to keep from weighing down Ajiryn; Therefore, a well placed hit may very well disable the weapon. Nova Star - Small lightweight and heat resistant weapon that resembles... a yoyo. Originally a gag, Ajiryn modified this so that a cable is attached to the yoyo, which serves as the cord the yoyo travels upon. The other end is attached to Ajiryn's right glove. The glove has also been modified with the ability to send an impulse along the cable, which causes the upper half of the yoyo to break off of the bottom half. The upper half has been developed as a miniature bomb (explosion radius of 18-23 ft), allowing the yoyo to fling said bomb in the intended course of the yoyo, while the bottom half returns to Ajiryn. The bottom half has jagged spikes that can pop out from the rim at the control of another pulse of the right glove. This gives the Nova Star the ability to be used as a weapon, long after the top half of it has been released. The spikes sometimes pierce onto the target, and this function can be used for many different purposes. To avoid confusion, the larger top is referred to as the 'Nova' (due to its signature explosion upon impact) while the bottom is called the 'Star' (since it is smaller, and contains the jagged edges.) Because the top detaches to explode, Ajiryn keeps a few spare Nova tops on him. However, the Nova is very difficult to correctly place on the Star and is definitely takes several minutes; Meaning, in most skirmishes, Ajiryn only gets to use this once. This is a huge drawback, and Ajiryn has yet to come up with a realistic way to quickly reload a Nova; Due to the bomb's weight, it can only be flung so far, reaching a base maximum of 53 ft. The Nova Star is Ajiryn's most complicated piece of equipment, and also the least used. Reflector Shield - Not exactly a weapon yet. Small gadget Ajiryn has been working on. Barely a prototype, this piece of equipment can not yet be relied upon. Hidden in Ajiryn's left glove, below the wrist, it can be activated by pressing the respective switch on the glove. Much to Ajiryn's dismay, the reflector can't block many things that the reflector should be able to; Actual bullets can pierce and disrupt the shield, and larger projectiles smash through, no problem. As a matter of fact, the only thing Ajiryn has ever really blocked with this technology was a rock; and even then, the rock was not forced hard enough to return it to the source. Ajiryn believes the more he tinkers with this, the higher chance he has of actually guarding himself against, say, at least a bullet. At the current moment, the reflector can be considered pretty much useless. Pepper Shaker - Located in one of various pockets, Ajiryn carries this simply because he likes pepper on his food. Hey, you would too, if you love eggs the way he did. Only actual weapon usage would be to throw it at someone; but why do that when you can use it to eat? Weapon Weaknesses: The Ares Lancer has a possibility of breaking if hit hard enough. The Area Lancer can cause some fatigue on Ajiryn's arms after awhile. The recoil of the Ares Lancer often throws Ajiryn off balance. The weapon is tricky to fire while standing perfectly rooted to the spot; Running shots are almost impossible, as they will most certainly topple Ajiryn. The Nova Star is very time consuming when it comes to reloading it. The Nova Star may fling the bomb at Ajiryn if he engages the detatchment too late. (Though, as long as he doesn't press the button, the bomb will return no problem.) The Reflector Shield just doesn't work. Period. (Yet.) The Pepper Shaker... is... a pepper shaker... Can't do much there. Biography: Ajiryn was the second son of 'Darios' Sr. and Iris J. Rosewood. At 23 months of age, 'Darios' Sr. abandoned the family, leaving Ajiryn's mother and older brother Darios J. to look after him. Soon after his seventh birthday, Iris succumbed to illness. She used her final moments to ask Darios to raise Ajiryn. Darios, infuriated by his Father's decision to leave Iris in such a fragile state, swore that he'd make his deadbeat father pay. In order for Darios to accomplish this, he couldn't have Ajiryn lagging behind; He therefore left Ajiryn under the instruction of his old teacher, Kajimoto. (Even though this conflicted with his mother's last wish.) Before he was able to leave, a small and confused Ajiryn begged him not to go. Darios would not change his mind, and eventually became enraged with Ajiryn, forcefully casting him away. Deeply puzzled by this, Ajiryn remained with Kajimoto and learned various skills concerning the elements. Kajimoto taught (or, at least tried) Ajiryn how to harness the power of the elements that the Earth consists of. (Ajiryn liked to think of himself the 'rebellious student', also earning him the nickname 'Manuke') Kajimoto threw his hands up in resign, until he noticed that the young fox took an interest in fighting. Though his age was catching up with him, Kajimoto was at least able to teach Ajiryn what he knew about the art of combat. Ajiryn had even become great friends with his teacher's daughter, Kazuki, and the two spent a great deal of time together. This peaceful (and sometimes, awfully painful) lifestyle lasted 3 years. However, Kajimoto's health began to give out due to his age, and once again, Ajiryn found himself without a home. Now barely 10, he set out, traveling a good part of the distance to Station Square via merchant wagon. Ajiryn eventually made his way to Station Square, and learned that the only way he could make enough to eat was with money; usually from the pockets of others. Disliking the idea of becoming just another beggar, he chose thievery instead, when he saw how well it worked for other not-so-fortunate youngsters that were probably like him. Very reluctant of becoming involved with the such, he only warmed up to this group of gamins after Ajiryn realized he needed to find a niche; and fast. This proved quite profitable to him, and he led this lifestyle for quite some time. He eventually forgot his teachings about harnessing the power of the elements, but Kajimoto's combat training was still prominent in his mind. Mostly when Ajiryn got caught during any pilfering. Soon, Ajiryn became the head of the group, and always knew exactly where to place everybody; He was able to scrutinize any situation, and decide who's abilities and which plans were suited for the job. When he was 14, he found himself wrapped in internal conflict. Though thievery was fun and stable, and though he felt that the SSSSS (Station Square Society for Small Saps; The group name. Fun and catchy, but meaningless.) was family to him, he felt that he was not honoring the now blurry memories of his parents, much less that of his noble teacher, Kajimoto. The only other name he could even remember at this point was Darios, and that Darios was somehow related, possibly a brother. And even so, what did he even remember of his father? Ajiryn assumed that the latter probably died. While contemplating this, he botched a plan to rob a nearby hardware-shop. The gamins failed to notify Ajiryn of an adult's presence, and when he found himself face to face with the owner, Ajiryn feared the worst. Instead, the owner simply smiled and left Ajiryn sitting outside, very confused. Mystified by the owner's calm reaction, Ajiryn approached him to apologize. After Ajiryn said his bit, the stout, twitchy hedgehog introduced himself as Nil; not through words, but by gesturing to the crudely shaped name tag on his shirt. An even MORE confused Ajiryn was about to leave, thinking that this 'Nil' was of the eccentric type, when he felt a tug on his coat. Dragging him into the shop, Nil slapped a name tag on Ajiryn (labeled 'Kid') and motioned for him to get to work. All while maintaining his mute and pleasant composure. Only problem being, Ajiryn didn't know WHAT work was; he often heard of adults complaining of it, for sure, but concerning job experience... Was being a thieving little son of a gun consider 'job-ly'? The SUPER confused fox wandered around a bit, and after 8 long hours of doing NOTHING, Nil allowed the fox to go. Thinking that was the last of 'Nil', Ajiryn soon told the others of the SSSSS what occurred. Going back out to pickpocket the usual commoners the next day, he found himself staring right into the eyes of a Lunch-Break Nil. It wasn't long until Ajiryn wound up in the same old, dinky storage room, with the same crude tag that referred to him as 'Kid'. Deciding he didn't feel like taking an 8 hour nap, Ajiryn began to try to occupy himself with something fruitful. Finding a book that could possibly have weighed more than he, Ajiryn flipped through it. Though the graphs and charts were beyond comprehension, Ajiryn noticed a pattern; The farther you got in certain points, the more developed the 'thing' looked in the pictures. The more you added to said 'thing' the better it got until it became a complete 'thing'. According to this 'book' Ajiryn could create this 'thing' if he followed it step by step, using all the tools depicted. Fascinated by this, Ajiryn found the individual parts he needed in the storeroom. Minutes turned to hours, and at the end of the day, a curious Nil found Ajiryn sleeping, holding on to his 'thing'. The hedgehog became interested in 'Kid'; Apparently the 'Kid' had been producing an item, with the help of Nil's 'Theory and Method of the Modern Mechanic' book. Feeling a little vexed (as Nil himself didn't understand that book for years) he woke up Ajiryn and was about to send the fox away when he noticed Ajiryn was wistfully looking back at the 'thing'. (Nil could not perceive what this 'thing' was at such an early stage.) Nil silently motioned the fox over and pointed towards what seemed to be a hastily made cot. Glad to sleep (legally) indoors, Ajiryn hopped in the cot and drifted off to sleep. All while Nil's mind raced with thoughts about the unusual 'Kid'. Ajiryn soon became attached to this strange person, and started hanging around the shop out of his own will. He worked everyday at completing his 'thing'. Unknown to the fox, Nil would watch. Unknown to any customers, that was exactly why they never got any service. Ajiryn finished his 'thing', and felt a sense of pride that he never experienced before! But now Ajiryn was at a loss; what was this 'thing'? The chapter seemed to end at that point, so the 'thing' must have finally been done. But this 'thing' was something Ajiryn never even imagined of before. What does it even do? Looking back at the book, he found out he forgot a part, called a 'battery'. Finding one that resembled this 'battery' in the book, he slipped it in the appropriate slot. At once, this 'thing' took flight! Ajiryn marveled at it, right up until the point where the 'thing' proceeded to wreck havoc on the store room. Boxes of screws went flying, various metal trinkets sailed through the air, and a very scared Ajiryn took refuge under the cot. Once the commotion stopped, Ajiryn peered out and saw a very unpleasant sight. The storeroom was devastated. Worse yet, a highly strange Nil was standing over Ajiryn. Convinced that he really screwed up this time, Ajiryn whimpered. How did Nil even get in? Granted, that he was the store owner, but Ajiryn should have heard it, unless the hedgehog had been there for the past few hours. To his surprise, Nil exclaimed, "Bravo!" Ajiryn fainted. The fox never learned why Nil finally spoke to him, much less why Nil didn't seek compensation for the store room incident. (Nil, quite joyous, simply replied "At least yur first un' didn't explode.) Now that he was, somehow, on speaking terms with Nil, he felt more open towards the quirky hedgehog. Ajiryn found out more about him; That this store was actually Nil's home, and the hedgehog found it cheaper to operate out of it; That Nil himself had been in a similar situation as Ajiryn when he was 20-something odd years; That Nil practically saw himself in Ajiryn. The fox asked Nil why he had gone through so much for what reality saw as a thief; Nil murmured, "Everyone deserves a sec'nd chance." Even better, Nil allowed Ajiryn to use the Workshop located to the right of the store room! (A satiated Nil said, "In there, ya can't make AS muchova mess.) In a very short period of time, Ajiryn learned the ins and outs of being a mechanic. Nil explained that all the graphs and charts related in one way or another. He showed Ajiryn where improvements could be made on whatever 'thing' the fox happened to be working on. When the pair weren't messing around in the back, they were running the shop front. (Ajiryn had become very accustomed to having "Welcome to Nil's, how may I help you?" as a greeting.) Soon, Nil was no longer just a strange, unusual hedgehog. (As far as Ajiryn thought of him.) The fox stopped thinking about his life with the SSSSS. Ajiryn came to respect Nil, and his loyalty to the hedgehog never swayed, even when Nil reprimanded the fox for going to an all-out brawl at Station Square. ("What can ya do there that ya can't do here?") Ajiryn dully explained that he felt that he needed to get out for a bit. The fox continued to sneak out to these fights, and began a secret little project he called 'Ares' to help him defend himself in these battles. He learned how to better himself after every fight with this new weapon he created. Now that he found something viable other than thievery, Ajiryn became very optimistic, and started secretly developing his own creations in Nil's workshop. Whenever he finished, he'd proudly present them to Nil. He loved this steady lifestyle. After developing a few tools to help him out, (with a few modifications that only Nil could have thought of.) he told Nil that he was going out to find out what happened to Darios. Nil was reluctant to let go of Ajiryn, as he enjoyed his company, the company of a small, curious little fox that wound up at his door 27 months ago, but agreed to it, because he knew Ajiryn wanted more out of life; adventure. (Memories of the Square Brawl incident came flooding back.) Ajiryn, now 16, said his farewell to Nil, who promised Ajiryn that his workshop would always be open to him, no matter what. Moves: Kaiser Lancer - The Ares Lancer is thrust forward at the same time Ajiryn's summons up an non-elemental force, causing an outburst with considerable range. This weakens Ajiryn a little bit. The first burst can extend well over 12 ft, but is soon diminished to a weak 1 ft extension after a few uses. Elemental Abilities: Fireball - Just as the name implies, it is supposed to be a fireball... bud in the hands of Ajiryn, not quite. Ajiryn hasn't actually cast this successfully in years, and any recent try has resulted in his arm going ablaze. He's given up on trying to use this for now; Burn treatment isn't exactly all too uncommon to him nowadays. Inferno Lancer - Similar to Kaiser Lancer, but with the elemental property of Fire. Due to Ajiryn's novice level in the art of harnessing the elements, this is the only element he can use, along with the fact that it drains energy from him at a higher rate. He also has a good chance of burning himself while using this. This ability requires a weapon of some sort. Combat Style: Ajiryn is inexperienced, but has the high potential of being a capable fighter. Everything about him is lightweight, from his physical self to his weapons. He's a clever one, and won't hesitate to use any of his surroundings to win a fight. All is good, but a few set backs add up to serve as a heavy drawback. There are many things about his style that prove risky. His inexperience and recklessness, added with the possibility that a number of things can backfire on him, and you have one heck of a Pandora's Box on legs. Everything considered, he has the potential to do more damage to himself than his opponent, if he isn't careful enough. He hopes that his swiftness and planned use of items will compensate for these drawbacks. Skills: Capable level of Mechanical/Technological knowledge. Extremely limited knowledge of battlefield first aid. Excellent tactical and strategy knowledge. Excellent skill of stealth and thievery. Limited knowledge of the elements. Very limited use of the element of Fire. Good knowledge of what tastes good with black pepper. Strengths: Being a capable fighter, he can put up quite a resistance when he wants to. His small frame and speedy nature allows for thievery and eluding at ease. His use of his equipment and planning of his actions proves him to be a force to be reckoned with. Ajiryn recognizes that speed is not enough, and uses quick thinking to get out of trouble. Weaknesses: Ajiryn is distrusting of others as of late, making him out to be distant. He is also constantly getting himself into more trouble than he knows how to get out of. Due to his lightweight frame, he can't take hits very well, so if a blow DOES connect, he becomes injured very quickly. His actual proficiency with a gun is still at the level of a novice. He also has a slight weakness against females; one could persuade him easily to do anything if she charms him enough. Plus, he has a bad habit of not thoroughly testing any new works he's come out with; Many times, this has resulted in his gadgets backfiring. Due to his slacking in recent years concerning Kajimoto's teachings, Ajiryn is very poor at wielding the elements. The only one he has a hope of controlling is Fire, and even at that, he will most likely scorch himself rather than the target. Recklessness is not much of a problem, but others would consider him a bit crazy sometimes. Is he? ...Like a fox. |
