It was many years ago that a series of events brought a hedgehog and a fox together, several years past that the threat of Robotnik first appeared, a threat that still exists to this day. We'll begin with a little history, the history of a world that never seems to see a calm day.

At first. it was small skirmishes, pointless attempts by a person obsessed with global domination. South Island, Western Isle and Angel Island all saw their own small conflicts but each time good prevailed. Even with Robotnik seizing control of the Time Stones on Little Planet, our heroes easily had it contained.

Time passed. Peace was enjoyed for a short while and Robotnik almost passed out of memory. Finally, the next hurdle arrived. The god of war, Chaos, was released from his eternal prison. Heroes rallied yet they failed to hunt down the Chaos Emeralds before the monster could absorb their power. A fierce confrontation was fought on Robotnik's new airship: the Egg Carrier. Chaos, now empowered with the power of six Chaos Emeralds, clashed head on with Sonic. The fighting brought the Carrier crashing down into the sea. As the dust settled, it appeared Sonic had been the victor.

However, this proved to be a mistake. Chaos, battered but not beaten, turned on Robotnik and went out on his own. Reclaiming the emeralds and reaping the final one, Chaos took upon his perfect form and wrecked havoc on Station Square. It was at this crossroad that Tikal, their guide along the journey, took full form to explain the mystery of Chaos. He was an ancient guardian entrusted with watching over the chao that populated the world. When the chao he had been protecting were slaughtered, Chaos lost his sense of duty and went crazy. Finally, he was sealed in the Master Emerald and forgotten. Tikal beckoned the resealing of Chaos despite his shattered feelings but Sonic thought different.

A confrontation between he and the perfect monster turned into a battle only rivaled by one other in recent history. The power of the seven Chaos Emeralds was shared, Super Sonic and Perfect Chaos clashing while everyone looked on. In a massive burst of energy Chaos was finally defeated, the beast returning to the placid self Tikal only knew of long ago. The power of the Emeralds dispersed once again and Tikal and Chaos vanished. Robotnik slipped away to plot his next move, a move that would have our heroes framed.

A year or so later, Sonic found himself cornered and arrested by the GUN military for theft of a Chaos Emerald. Rallying to his aid, Tails, Knuckles and Amy rushed to uncover the truth. What they found shocked them all: a hedgehog nearly identical to Sonic called Shadow.

What shocked them even more was the revealing of Robotnik's latest plan. The ARK, an ancient orbital research station, had sparked back to life, its main cannon obliterating a section of the moon. The ultimatum was simple: surrender the Earth or have it suffer the same fate. There was a glimmer of hope though. Robotnik needed the Chaos Emeralds to execute his plan and our heroes flew into action once again to find them.

Their search lead them to ARK and a final showdown of good against evil. In the resulting chaos, the emeralds found their way into Robotnik's hands and he initiated his plan. As with Chaos though, events fell out of Robotnik's control. With the last emerald placed into the cannon matrix, the colony jerked, falling from its orbit.

A message was broadcast around the world by none other than Robotnik's long dead grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. The military took over the ARK when the research there went too far. In the chaos, his granddaughter, Maria, was killed. Distraught by loss, Gerald designed his revenge against the world and created Shadow, the Ultimate Lifeform.

It soon became clear though that Shadow wasn't the Ultimate Lifeform. As our heroes attempted to stop the colony crashing into Earth, Shadow's prototype, a giant lizard, appeared and tried to stop them. Shadow managed to defeat it only for the lizard to take direct control of the colony by fusing itself with it. Both Sonic and Shadow finally decided to put aside their differences and help to defeat this threat.

With the emeralds lending their power, a titanic battle erupted in space. With the final blow, Shadow's power fizzled out and he fell to Earth. Though distraught, Sonic and the others returned home and enjoyed a life of peace and quiet in the wake of the following disaster.

History entered its next stage, one that saw the world torn in two in a battle between GUN and Robotnik. It was a strange sight to behold, Sonic working alongside the GUN military to combat a greater threat. Still, it seemed to work and GUN began to soften to the presence of the furry population. Eventually, furries were being drafted into the army to help in the fight.

After six months, both sides had endured losses and Robotnik virtually disappeared from the face of the planet. The world had been left scarred though by numerous battles, some of which our heroes had entered and helped to turn the tide. Things began to settle down again but Robotnik wasn't quite finished yet, striking back at everyone from his new hidden base.

Two years have now passed since the events on the ARK. Our heroes have grown in age and wisdom but the world has remained nearly the same as before. The endless struggle against Robotnik continues and other issues and troubles press at them from other angles.

In one prior incident, Robotnik seized the time stones once more. Although an attempt to wipe Sonic from existence, a malfunction to the machine caused Robotnik and the time stones to both disappear. Sonic and Tails were left with no leads to the doctor's whereabouts and forced to wait until his next move.

In the meantime, an organization known as the Freedom Fighters for Furs, or F4, rose unexpectedly in response to a combination of GUN's old ways and a general dislike for humankind's mistreatment towards them. Using guerrilla means, they pressed their tyranny against the world around them. Their major threats only ceased upon a most unanticipated turn of events.

Just as the Egg Carrier veiled Station Square in black shadow, so too did the Monoceros encumber Capitol City under red skies. Heroes rallied to take on the deadly Lord Sarath and his fleet. Despite the valiant efforts of many a brave soul, the damage from a disrupted phase cannon would not be undone. In one violent spawn of eruption, Capitol City was wiped off the map. Many other areas also suffered damage including Radical City and Mystic Ruins where F4 main base was also laid to waste. Although F4 had continued to make their move here and there, their attacks on humankind were relatively meager in comparison to its past exploits.

It was also during this time that Robotnik made his reappearance, on national television no less. Alive and mysteriously young again, the doctor made headlines in an ominous interview with Kitty O'Brien. This included a widely controversial polling of how he should handle his negotiations with the press, an aggressive outlook winning by a landslide.

Two weeks have passed since the fall of Sarath and Robotnik's broadcast to the world. Although humans and furs alike have begun to rebuild their lives in the peace that has followed, this world as we know it has never seen calm for long. What is Robotnik truly plotting? What of Sarath whose disappearance has caused both relief and goosebumps? And what other villainy seems to be brewing below this quiet exterior?
