The Mother of All Escapes

RE: The Mother of All Escapes
Dan likewise turns to look out the back, and simply stares, his mouth hanging slightly open. Something is definitely not right... 'Oh, so it'd be okay if it were a normal giant fireball racing towards us?' The fox shakes his head, and looks at Jav. He doesn't bother saying anything, though; Nail and Jodie both summed things up rather well, after all, and he'd hate to distract Jav unnecessarily. That said, he tries to just focus on the road ahead of them, rather than the growing glow behind them, and tries to ignore the seemingly mocking text along the bottom of the side mirror, which is all but dominated by the quickly spreading light.

Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear.

Were it not for that light representing all but certain doom, he'd probably be finding that little message on the mirror hilarious. Like something out of a movie... Given the circumstances, though, it's, somehow, not quite so amusing. To say the least.

RE: The Mother of All Escapes
James could only smile as the explosion raced ever closer. There was nothing he could do about it seeing as the Jav was already topped out. "well...what happens happens I guess. HOW ABOUT A SONG YOU GUYS?!?!?! This is song I learned in a bar in radical city years back....and yes...I was buzzed so cut me some slack.

OOO EEE OOO AH AH TING TANG WALLA WALLA BING BANG OOO EEE OOO AH AH TING TANG WALLA WALLA BANG BANG..." He continued singing merrily as the explosion drew closer and closer.

Nail wasn't listening to anything Jav was saying. He meekly held onto the back of Jav's headrest...glancing nervously at the speedometer and then at the rearview mirrors, back and forth over and over again. This car's speed was impressive to say the least....but now that they'd reached the top speed, all that was left to do was hold on and hope the blast ran out of steam soon.

RE: The Mother of All Escapes
[Sorry, Laurie. Moving on.]

Jodie was following Nail's motions in almost an identical fashion as the Jav sped along the highway. Her hands were jarring with restlessness, but there was nothing she could think to do. For whatever knowledge she'd gained over the years, nothing she learned prior would be of any help in their current situation. It was hard to think in the first place. Especially with Jav singing! Jodie sat tight, her hands fumbling in her pockets. Jodie enjoyed a good laugh, but in the face of danger like this, the thought was pretty unethical to her.

Dan stares over at the human, rather clearly wondering if he's gone completely insane... and cringes slightly. He could've at least picked a better song. That said, though, there doesn't seem to be much of anything he could do, so, the fox sits there quietly, attempting to remain calm, or at least seem like it, and not focus too much on the disconcerting view in the mirrors.

*hmm I thought I was after Dan... never mind*

Still huddled into a ball, the words and song lyrics wash over Laurelle, and she keeps still and quiet, concentrating on regulating her breathing.

James changes songs and continues to sing more quietly as his occupants did not join in. This was James' way of keeping his mind from freezing up like a deer in the headlights by keeping it busy when he wasnt having to make some sort of decision driving related.

James checked his instruments and made some adjustments to his car trying to squeeze a few more mph out of the engine but the fact of the matter was that the car was already doing a screaming 208mph and was not going to go any faster without extensive modifications. He checked his rear view mirror and sighed heavily ceasing his singing.

"I died a year ago in an car explosion...and here I am one year to the day and Im about to actually die in an explosion...how utterly ironic." he said to himself as he turned his eyes back the road ahead of him.

RE: The Mother of All Escapes
Just then, as if suddenly reaching an impassable barrier, the blast stopped suddenly. It was now forming a perfect sphere behind them, the surface of it crackling with untold amount of energy. It seemed they were safe...

...but not entirely. With a crack a number of energy bolts flew off the sphere, drawn to several tall buildings beside the highway. The bolts vapourised sections of the buildings and caused many of them to loose their integrity and collapse. It wasn't the buildings that were a problem though, it was a final bolt...this one flying above them and finally slamming into a section of the highway ahead of them, vapourising a good hundred meter section of the road.

Behind them though the explosion was already starting to fade to nothing as the energy dispersed. There was nothing in its wake, a perfectly round crater carved into the centre of the city. Nonoe of the ships in the sky had survived...apart from one, Sarath's flagship, which now appeared to be diving towards the sea off the coast as its hull erupted with small explosions.

RE: The Mother of All Escapes
"BRAKES! BRAKES!" Nail screamed, in response to the explosion in front of them. He ducked his head down behind Jav's seat...hanging onto the headrest and bracing himself. He really hoped this car had the brakes to match the engine.
