The Mother of All Escapes

James put the Jav through a series of high speed zig zags through the abandoned vehicles that now littered the streets of capitol. Approaching speeds of 70mph, while dodging through cars, and watching for their exit ramp was sucking up his attention and making it impossible to respond to anything his friends were saying. "fourth street, fifth street, sixth street, seventh street...'' he mumbled as they zoomed past them.

"Alright guys and gals, when we get on this highway up here it's gonna be a really bad time to have a fear of extreme speed or have motion sickness. I'm gonna push her up to 200mph, that's 320 KMH for those of you who dont use MPH, after we get far enough away I'll slow her down to her cruising speed around 165mph. So, if you feel your stomach cant handle going that fast close your eyes, turn your head down, breathe deeply, and daydream about something. BLOWING GUTS IN MY RIDE IS NOT AN OPTION!!!"

They cruise for a few more moments before James pulled into the wrong lane and slowed down very quickly before taking an offramp onto the highway. The highway was dead and empty, completely devoid of vehicles. The lane they usually would have been using was a completely different story however. James was instantly taken back by the thousands of burned out vehicles and bodies piled on the other side of the concrete devider. James couldn't take his eyes off of it, it was THAT horrifying. "I guess they were trying to escape when the invaders showed up....unfortunetly looks like they didn't make it" James said swallowing hard saying a silent prayer for them.

"alright guys...lets get the hell outta here" James said tearing his eyes away from the horrific scene not 15 yards away from him. "remember what I said about blowing your innerds all over my car cuz here WE GO!!!" James said pressing the gas peddle to the floor:

65mph, 70mph, 80mph,95mph, 111mph,120mph,135mph,150mph,164mph,188mph,193mph,201mph, 205mph,204mph.

The scenery wizzed by so fast you could barely take in what it was. Signs became unreadable as they raced by at extreme speeds. The broken line of median blurred into a single, semi transparent, line. "RIGHTEOUS RIGHTEOUS" James howled.

After Nail's initial fear passed, he actually found himself relaxing and enjoying the ride...until he saw all the wreckage on the highway. Unlike Jav, he said nothing, and merely gave a small sigh. Nail had witnessed plenty of death and destruction over his lifetime, so he was somewhat used to the sight.

In any case, at least this time he was prepared for Jav firing up the engine. He allowed himself to be pressed back into the seat by the G forces. It actually felt...pretty good. Kind of like getting under a heavy blanket before you went to sleep.

Jodie's excitement, however freeing and invigorating it had been, quickly diminished when they hit the highway. Wreckage from the attack, the bodies, the flames... It all came back in a cold chill running down her spine. Ignoring Jav's directions, she took a good glimpse from her seat, her ears suddenly perking.

"J-J-wait..Wait!"

But it was too late. Jav had already put the pedal to the metal and they peeled out before she'd even the chance to finish her statement. She could only feel sick as the combined forces of adrenaline, pressure, and misery knotted up inside her. Back at the scene of the carnage, the form of Jeff, the head photographer of Capitol Coverage, lay dead on the street.

Dan falls silent again as they take off down the highway; the speed doesn't bother him too much, especially once it becomes apparent that Jav is quite capable of handling it well, even at those speeds, though it does take him some getting used to. However, the sights along the opposite side of the highway.. such destruction... the fox doesn't have any idea what to say, and can't help but stare in stunned silence until the view becomes nothing but a blur, after which he slumps silently back into his seat.

[Laurelle]

Missing all the grim sights, Laurelle is still curled around into a ball. Eyes and head covered, cushioned by her tail, trying not to squeak in terror.

Behind them a scene like something from an action movie was unfolding. A bright light lit up in the sky as the Monoceros fired and the Retribution exploded. Moments later a giant spherical explosion ripped out into the air. It wasn't like a regular blast though, there were no flames or wind rushing past buildings and shattering windows. Instead there was simply a bright light, expanding in a sphere from the point of detonation. Everything it touched vanished from sight, consumed and seemingly vapourised by the racing light. It was going faster than they were, the blast front tearing into the ground behind them as the car sped up the highway...

[YAY FOR OUTRUNNING GIANT NUCLEAR DEATH EXPLODING SHIP]

Nail's eyes bulged wide open when he saw everything around them suddenly enveloped in brightness. Then he turned around and his mouth gaped open. There was a bright white explosion coming up behind them...fast.

"JAV! PEDAL FASTER!"

[Um... posting out of turn here, but, want to mention it now, before it's too late to make adjustments accordingly. Nail... are we forgetting something, maybe? Or.. someone? Who might happen to be waiting for our little group to return, not knowing they found another way out of the city.. or that there's a giant explosion headed her way...? ...... On that note, how long were those subway tunnels, anyway? Would she be far enough away starting off to be able to get clear? Or, might those tunnels offer some protection? Just throwing ideas out there. .... Unless, you thought of this already, and have something planned, in which case, I'll just be quiet. XP]

[My plan was for Canma to meet us along the highway. Like, she saw what was happening to the ship and decided to get further away from the city.]

Jodie slowly looked back after the sudden flash of light elapsed into a sustained glow, a hand cupped above her brow. It didn't appear anything like a regular explosion. At first, she thought it was part of the gigantic beam that she could also make out in the sky. As the light rapidly approached, however, the vixen quickly realized the danger. She already felt horrible from seeing all the corpses. Now, they were looking at their own impending doom in the face.

"Jav, I hope this thing can go faster 'cause it's right on our tail!"
