[Links, I hope you don't mind me controlling Sarath's troops a little bit, like this. Tell me if you do mind and I'll change this post.]

Because of Sarath's sudden attack, the faculty evacuated the school rather suddenly. At this time on a weekday, the school should have been teeming with life. Instead, desks lay scattered and overturned in many of the empty classrooms. Random papers fluttered and floated around from a breeze that came in through open windows.

But in the science lab, one could hear someone shuffling around inside the chemicals closet. When the attack started, Ayecaye Strafer decided to hide on the empty top shelf in there, since she was small enough to fit in such a tiny space. Of course Sarath's troops had searched the building. One of them had looked inside this closet in fact. But, he hadn't bothered to look at the dark, top shelf, since he didn't think there was enough space to hide up there.

In any case, she'd been hiding there for a few hours, and it had been ages since anybody had come by. She figured it might be a safe time to slip out for a minute...maybe get a drink of water, nick some food from the cafeteria...those kinds of things. She needed to keep herself nourished, especially if it came down to her needing to slip out of the city. It would already be bad enough trying to sneak out if she weren't hungry and thirsty and tired.

So..slowly, and carefully, she climbed down the shelves, wincing every time a bottle rattled. While she figured there wasn't anyone still in the building, she couldn't be 100% sure. Anyone could be listening.

In any case, she finally hit the floor, slowly turned around, and opened the closet door a tiny crack. Nobody in the classroom. Good. Slowly slipping out, she went to one of the lab sinks and took long gulps from the faucet. That took care of thirst... But what about food? The cafeteria was down on the first floor...she was on the third floor. That would be an awful long, risky journey.

In any case, satisfying her thirst cleared her head a bit, so she went back into the closet again to ponder how to get down to the cafeteria. But then she heard explosions outside...and cannon fire. Was it an attack? Had rescue finally come?

She jumped out of the closet again and went to the window. Looked like, for some reason, the enemy airships were taking off and shooting at the tops of buildings... But was it her imagination, or did she see a tiny black pinprick on top of the skyscrapers? The school kept a small telescope by the window for astronomy, so she ran over to it and pointed it towards the action.

While the black dot was moving really fast and hard to see, she did see that it had spines. Sonic or Shadow maybe? She wouldn't be surprised. Smiling, she went back into the closet. Maybe she wouldn't have to run out of the city after all, and she could just wait for help to come.

[From Subway-Green Line]

Ayecaye had been pondering for a while if staying put was such a good idea. There wasn't a battle anywhere near her section of the city...she hadn't heard anyone come by her room in ages...and on top of all of this, maybe she could just use the fighting as a cover to slip out of the city and just take her rescue into her own hands.

The matter decided, she started to climb down from her perch on the shelf.

---

Nail bounded up the subway stairs two at a time, finally popping out in front of the school. It looked all right from here. He didn't see much damage. Only things out of the ordinary were papers scattered all over the place, plus a bunch of things like garbage cans and bicycles knocked over...probably as people ran to find somewhere safe. That made him feel a bit uneasy though. What if Ayecaye had just decided to run away with the others?

He sighed. No point in considering it now. Nail had come all this way; he might as well go and look. If she was here, well, wonderful. They could leave right away. If not...well...there were a few other places she could be, but he didn't see much hope of finding her elsewhere. Rifle in hand, he proceeded across the street to the building.

Posted by Nail Strafer on Sep. 02 2008,07:22
Nail strapped his rifle across his back as he approached the front doors, swapping to his silver handgun. He didn't want to be caught again at close range with the rifle. The fox forcefully pushed one of the doors aside, sweeping his handgun across the front lobby. Nobody was here.

After closing the door, he stopped to think for a minute. What classes did Ayecaye have at this time of day again? Geometry? Chemistry? History? He shook his head. Nail couldn't remember her schedule and he doubted it would help much anyway. Who said she'd still be near one of her classrooms? In any case, he supposed if he were hiding here, he'd want to be near a source of food and water. So, he decided to go towards the cafeteria.

---

Ayecaye quietly walked downstairs. She didn't run, for fear that she'd make a lot of noise doing that and would alert the enemy. Her stomach grumbled too. She had no idea how hungry she was, from how long she'd been waiting up there for rescue to happen. Maybe she should stop by the cafeteria on the way out, after all. So, once Ayecaye reached the ground floor, she made her way in that direction.

[Way to be impatient. <3]

Jodie quickly bounded up the steps into the city; that is, what remained of it. Dust still curled in the air from the earlier assault and debris dimmed the streetlamps and cluttered the sidewalks and roads. Cars nearby were either crushed or overturned and the city in general gave off a foul, unrecognizable odor. Jodie herself was both astonished and appalled by the display. But she didn't give it much thought past that, being in a hurry to catch up to Nail. Where was he anyway?

That bonehead! I don't care how much of a professional he thinks he is! Even I have enough common sense to stick with the group!

A loud clatter nearby answered her previously rhetorical question and she hissed quietly to herself. Way to tell the world where you're at so Robotnik would come and kill you. She had quickly narrowed down her list of candidates after she had seen the robots. Jodie tread carefully yet quickly across the street towards where she had heard the sound, only stopping once to look back and motion for them to follow.

She nearly tripped on the door and was forced to catch herself on the wall. Peering in from where she was, Jodie could see Nail already was armed with yet another gun. A pistol, to her knowledge. She'd never really paid much mind to them until that day. He was already heading off without them. Groaning to herself and rolling her eyes, the vixen followed after.

[It took us over two months to get here after we started this plot, even though we haven't encountered any resistance from Sarath, apart from four small bots. I think that's a good reason to get impatient.]

Nail heard the sounds of someone trying to catch up to him, and spun around, handgun drawn in one hand. He gave a little sigh of relief when he saw it was only Jodie. "Oh...it's just you." And then he merely turned around and continued moving down the corridor, not paying her much attention. Now that they were at their destination, he was much more focused on finding where Ayecaye could be.

[From Subway-Green Line]

Dan hurries after Jodie to the entrance to the school, finding himself very uncomfortable with being out in the open now. It seemed like most of the action had moved further away, but even so... just with the surreal state the city is in now, he doesn't want to spend any more time outside than necessary.

He hesitates a moment in the lobby as he looks around, and raises his voice slightly as Nail and Jodie start to head off. "Hey, guys..? Hey.." The fox wants to get their attention, but is still trying not to be too loud; he doesn't want to get the attention of anyone else who might happen to be lurking around nearby. "How big is this place, anyway? I realize you might have a good idea where she'll be, but if she isn't? Should we maybe split up? We don't want to be here any longer than necessary, right? And we'd be able to cover more ground quicker that way."

Laurelle holds her position near to Dan, keeping pace with him, but wincing as he speaks aloud. The intense brevity of the situation is causing more than a little paranoia right now. Nonetheless, she's going to stick with the group, so much as she can. The school looks huge, almost as big as the hopsitals she'd trained in. And for a small bushbaby, finding her way was always a challenge, so she sighs gently, but prepares to begin searching.

*Sigh, my grammar was dreadful there.*

James was at the tail end of the group covering them from possible attack from the rear. James too flinched as Dan began to speak "Danman..come on now, keep it on the down low dude baddies might be nearby" James whispered figuring Dan's powerful ears would pick it up. James wasn't especially worried if they did come. James didn't have a cowardly bone in his body as he had proved time and time again but James was a little impatient when it came to getting his car out of harms way.

"so..what are we gonna do?"

Posted by Nail Strafer on Sep. 10 2008,09:23
[Skipping Yoli due to abscence rule. Let's get this wrapped up now anyway.]

"You guys could check the science and math wings if you want...I think she had a class in one of those areas at the time of the attack. But I'm going to look at the cafeteria. If I were hiding out somewhere I think I'd want to have food nearby..."

"Augustine!" Nail's eyes bulged wide open at the shout. The only people who called him by that name were his dad, Carrie, and...Ayecaye! He whirled around at the cry, and saw Ayecaye standing there, at the bottom of a set of stairs. Looks like she had stuck around after all!

A huge grin spread across Nail's face as the two of them rushed to meet each other. After sharing a hug, they backed up and smiled at each other. "Ayecaye...so glad you're safe...I didn't think you'd still be here..."

"I didn't think anyone was gonna come looking for me..." she nodded. She looked like she was about to cry, but didn't do it. Her tomboyish personality forbade it. "You're real lucky, I was about to leave on my own..."

"Wow...I see. Anyway...umm...I suppose we can leave now..." He turned to introduce her to the rest of the search party, but she was off and running before he could say anything.

"Jodie!" she said, rushing up to the purple vixen. "You came too?!" Nail blinked. They knew each other already? Then again Gail seemed to know her...

Ayecaye paused before she reached Jodie though, and looked at the rest of the group. "Who are you guys? Are you Aug's and Jodie's friends or something?"

Posted by Dan Dark on Sep. 15 2008,23:59
Dan winces slightly at Jav's comment; he'd been trying to get everyone's attention, yes, but he didn't think he'd been that loud - it'd been intended as just a loud whisper. But, ah well.

The fox gives a small shrug and nods as Nail suggests where to search, though, before he even gets a chance to ask where those particular wings are, they're interrupted by a shout.

Though he'd never met Ayecaye or even gotten much of an idea what she looked like, it became pretty obvious to him that it was her, just judging from Nail's and her reactions to one another.

The fox can't help but grin slightly, both glad to see that she's safe, that everyone's happy for the moment, and amused a bit by the thought that just crossed his mind. 'Well, makes our job a bit easier now, don't it?'

"Who are you guys? Are you Aug's and Jodie's friends or something?"

Dan looks up, still smiling somewhat. "Yeah.. yeah, pretty much. I'm Dan. Ran into Jodie.." He thinks for a moment, "not all that long ago.. the lot of us met up on the way out of the city during the initial attack. Ended up over in Station Square... and then Jodie found out you were still here, and wanted to come back for ya, and, well.." The fox gives a small shrug while smiling, and tilts his head towards Laurelle. "We weren't about to let her just run off by herself.. so... yep. Here we are." Dan smiles meekly as he finishes, and nods towards Laurelle.

[Meh. I'm really not crazy about those first couple lines, since they only make sense if you look back at the previous posts... but.. ah well. Should serve it's purpose well enough anyway.]
Posted by Laurelle on Sep. 17 2008,10:08
"Hiya, lovely to see you finally! Are you feeling alright? Anything I can help with? I'm Laurelle, medic, just one of the crowd really, bumped into these guys and felt like they could use a hand. Not that they needed it and all I did was lie on the floor with my tails wrapped over my eyes!" Laurelle smiles and pours as much warmth as she can into the introduction, thinking that the whole group is going to be reeling with released tension, especially this child.

"I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but unless you have anything pressing to do like eat or drink or whatever, we should probably get back to your mother, she'll still be worrying about you guys." Concious of wasting time, and being very lucky already makes her still pretty insecure about wandering around over here, the sooner everyone got out, away from those scary robots the better.

James yawned as he watched this reunion of sorts. He was happy for them, even if he didnt really know who they were exactly.

"I agree with short stuff we should save this until after we're out of here".

James too was ready to go as he wished to see what had become of his car. There would be hell to pay if something horrible had happened to it.

Posted by Nail Strafer on Sep. 21 2008,21:14
Nail shrugged.

"So let's just go back the way we got here then. Simple enough. It seemed pretty safe the first time. We only ran into four bots and that was it. I'd be grateful if that's all we had to face the second time through. So let's go." He turned to Ayecaye. "You wanna do it too, right?"

Ayecaye didn't like being put on the spot like that...but she hesitantly nodded in agreement. "Well...okay. If you say it's safe."

"And since you guys want to leave immediately, let's do it!"

And with that, Nail started walking straight back to the entrance, where the subway was. Ayecaye hesitated for a moment before going after him.

Jodie felt both a wash of relief and suspicion overcome her. Finding Ayecaye so quickly with such little conflict was both a blessing yet left her with a sense of foreboding like far off storm clouds. Jodie greeted Ayecaye though with as much if not more enthusiasm than the fellow vixen had displayed herself, partly amused by Nail's own reaction. For being some tough, know-it-all, seeing that detail, however minor, slip his mind briefly enough for it to be warped later brought a snicker to her. She decided to let him off though without a comment; his reaction did enough justice in itself.

She pondered briefly over the suggested escape route before nodding to herself. There really wasn't any reason they couldn't take it back unless it was sealed off. Judging by the stillness of the city though, it seemed that whatever had attacked prior was gone. Yet she was left unnerved. Robotnik wouldn't just pillage a city and leave. He'd have robots stationed around it by now. Probably making a fortress from its ruins...

Jodie just shook her head. Now wasn't the time to ponder over what if's. They still weren't out of the fire. She stuck near Ayecaye as they began to head out. Of all the group, the gray vixen appeared to be the most unnerved. Jodie offered a smug smile, despite her prior gloom.

"Since when did ya worry so much? Things'll be fine. Those dumpsters-for-brains had nothin' on us."
Posted by Dan Dark on Sep. 28 2008,18:46
Dan follows along behind the others, mostly quiet again, though he can't help but grin slightly upon overhearing Jodie's comment. Those 'bots they'd faced really weren't that tough, looking back on it now. Of course, he also wouldn't mind if he never happened to see one of those 'bots again.

He shakes his head slowly; there's more important things to worry about for now. As he does, though, he pauses and looks up towards the center of the city. When he'd arrived in this city for the first time, only a few days ago, it had been a majestic and imposing sight, but now, the city's skyline, while mostly intact still, seems a shadow of itself; broken windows, trash, the eerie absence of the normal sounds of city life... there's nothing but the noise from the distant battle going on towards the center of town. He can't see much of anything, save for the smoke; those ships must be staying low, or damaged, even, but with so many tall buildings in between, they're all but blocked from his view. All he can make out, really, is a small but bright flash of light, which he can only guess was an explosion.. judging by the sound, and the slight vibration through the ground. The only other noticable objects are the small points of GUN aircraft which.. all seem to have started flying away after that blast..?

'...Oh... that can't be good.'

"Um.. guys? I don't mean to alarm anyone, but.. I'm thinking we should probably hurry... Whatever's going on over there, doesn't look good, and I somehow doubt that it'll get better if we wait around."
Posted by Laurelle on Sep. 29 2008,02:06
"Nothing gets better if you just wait for it to happen, and that's exactly what someone is doing for us. We need to hurry. Do you have a phone you can contact her with? Give her some reassuraance at least." Laurelle asks Nail, happy phase one is complete, but mindful that a sitting target is waiting for them, with their only way of making a hasty exit the other side of that tunnel network. Being smaller than the others, she find the tunnels pretty large, but even so, she has no real liking of underground, enclosed spaces, especially after what happened before. "Let's get going, the sooner we set out, the sooner we're back together, and headed out of this terrible place."

Laurelle is also slightly freaked out by the stillness, the plain wrong feeling of such a large place truely silent. Nowhere is every quiet with life in it, even through the night, as the world keeps turning, people go about their lives. Even mundane things are now lost to this ghost town. She's longing to be back in the tents, with the other refugees, uncertainty seems better than this blank finality.

'They're leaving already!?!?!...But that means we'll leave my car to its grizzly fate...NO I WILL NOT!' James thought remaining motionless.

"Im not taking the subway dudes. I gotta faster way outta this mess now that I know the way above is clear. Well...it's been real"

James said quickly as he began running in the opposite direction the rest of the group was going. He stopped for a moment and turned "I dont normally offer rides to strangers but if you wanna come along with me I guess that'd be cool...follow me if so"
He turned and began running again. James didn't care whether they came or not his mind was on getting back to station square to check on his family. He just became part of that family he was not about to let anything take that away from him.

Posted by Nail Strafer on Sep. 30 2008,08:42
Nail snapped his head towards Jav, when he heard the words "I gotta faster way outta this mess now that I know the way above is clear." If there was a faster way out of the city, he was interested.

Nail had briefly looked towards downtown when that flash lit up the city for a moment. That bright, unnatural explosion...plus the fact that GUN seemed to be leaving...put him in a bit of a mild panic. If GUN was leaving in a big hurry, it must be very bad. He didn't relish the idea of trying to outrun more of those explosions on foot. Being underground would likely offer some protection from the blasts, but he didn't know how well it would work against the alien weapons. But a fast ride...he certainly wouldn't mind being in a car or whatever if they had to run away from something.

"I'll go with you," the fox turned and sprinted after Jav.

Ayecaye saw her big brother heading that way, and immediately followed him without a word. She trusted his judgment...especially given the current situation.
Posted by Jocelyne Takira on Oct. 01 2008,21:07
"Wait, what?"

Jodie looked back just in time to see Jav more or less scampering off. Her train of thought successfully sunk, she instead tried to remember what he'd even said. In seconds, it dawned on her.

"Hey, wait up!"

As she padded off behind Nail and Ayecaye, she caught sight of the flickers in the sky that Dan had initially pointed out. Her prior theory crushed, the vixen was forced to reevaluate the situation once more. There were just so many loopholes. Things didn't make sense at all. It wasn't F4. They didn't have this kind of fire power. But she'd thought it wasn't Robotnik either. Those ships from earlier though... She could only assume them to be his... or someone else's? She hadn't the slightest clue. It was starting to frustrate; it felt almost like everyone knew who it was but them.

Locking away her thoughts for the time being though, she called over her shoulder.

"Dan, Laurelle! Let's go!"

I just hope he has enough room for us all. It's gonna be a tight fit...
Posted by Dan Dark on Oct. 01 2008,21:30
Dan nods quickly and follows after the others without saying anything, still just a bit shaken and worried by what seemed to be going on in the distance. And besides, he's certainly not going to argue with a faster way of getting out of the city. It will probably be a bit cramped; somehow, the fox rather doubts that Jav would be the sort for a mini-van or such; but even so, considering what the likely alternative seemed to be, cramped would be quite acceptable.

[Oh, Yoli..? Just remembered something.. when the attack was first starting, didn't Sarath make an announcement, introducing himself and that such nonsense? I can't remember where that post was now, think the thread might've gotten lost somewhere possibly; or maybe I just missed it.. *shrugs* Either way, though. Pretty sure there was something like that.. so... *shrugs again*]
Posted by Amy Rose on Oct. 01 2008,21:32
[He did. Jodie just wasn't paying attention. Ala she was drifting off in the rescue vehicle.]
Posted by Dan Dark on Oct. 01 2008,21:37
[Ah. Okay. Didn't quite remember that. And, like I said, couldn't find the post to check. >> Although... well, I do remember Station Square, though; they really weren't there all that long before heading back out, were they? If they had been, I'd think she probably would've overheard something, from people there talking... but, ah well. Either way, guess she'll find out sooner or later, eh? XP;]
Posted by Laurelle on Oct. 02 2008,03:18
"Sounds good, lets go." Laurelle starts to run, pretty fast for her in order to keep up with the much larger legs of those she's with. She wraps her tail around her case, making sure it doesn't bump or bounce.

Just as long as we keep poor Camna in mind, and get back to a safe place. Laurelle tries to stifle thoughts of others waiting here for rescue like Ayecaye, they must have been evacuated, they must have been.
Posted by Jav on Oct. 03 2008,22:03
James continued running ignoring all that was going on around him. His mind was racing as fast as his legs were carrying him. Was his car still there? Did it still run? Was his family okay? He had to get back to station square even if it killed him. "This way, come on keep up" James yelled as he turned a corner and sprinted quickly down an alleyway, jumping onto a dumpster, and flying over a chainlink fence blocking off the alleyway with surprising grace...as if he'd had practice before.

James hit the ground running and sprinted out the other end of the alley to arrive again in the park he'd awakened in not 40 minutes ago. He zipped through the trees not losing a lick of speed or intensity utilizing proper breathing techniques he'd learned over the years to fuel his muscles along. James ground to a hault as he reached a familiar street at the other end of the park.

There it was....the street that the over pass he'd left the Jav underneith intersected. James smiled and took off full force again. "it's not much farther..I left the Jav underneith an overpass up ahead. It's more than fast enough to get us outta here in no time flat" James yelled.
