Skallagrim - Bladed Weapons YouTube Channel
I found a channel on YouTube that I think some of you around here may find interesting:
https://www.youtube.com/user/SkallagrimNilsson This guy goes by the name Skallagrim, and his channel mostly focuses around bladed weaponry like swords, axes, and the like. He discusses characteristics of various bladed weapons, and fighting techniques with said weapons. Most interestingly, he reviews fictional weapons (Link's Master Sword, Cloud's Buster Sword, Kingdom Heart's Keyblade, Skyrim weapons, etc.) and discusses how practical they would be in real life to use (the answer for most of them is...not at all). Plus he discusses sword tactics from fiction (hanging your weapon on your back, or dual wielding) and how practical those tactics would be in real life (the answer for most of them is not very). I just figured this would be an interesting channel to most of you, since we have a lot of characters around here that use things like swords, axes, spears, and so on. Give this channel a watch if you don't know a lot about combat with edged weapons. You will definitely learn a few things, and it may help improve your roleplaying as well. |

RE: Skallagrim - Bladed Weapons YouTube Channel
Oh, right, this guy.
I dunno, he does seem to generally know what he's talking about, but I don't altogether agree with him on certain points. (For example, his rant about banned throwing stars. I feel like he was missing the reason for the ban.) He's also not the most eloquent speaker, and he repeats himself a lot, so yeah. Personally I'll just stick to my own research and real-life experience. (I can use swords too BTW, and I still say nunchucks are the dumbest cool weapon ever invented.) My Profile |

RE: Skallagrim - Bladed Weapons YouTube Channel
That's great for you, but not everyone has the privilege of getting to practice with bladed weapons in real life (like myself). This channel showed me a lot of things I never knew before about combat with these types of weapons. Since a lot of people around here like to run around with bladed weapons, I definitely think it's useful material for people to liven up their battles in roleplays.
And I get the feeling that English is not Skall's first language. He's still quite good with his speaking if that is kept in mind. It's much more eloquent than I could ever be in another language. |
