RE: Rimgar
First: I hate to bring this up again, but the new profile reminds me of when I looked at the first version of this character. When I read this profile in its entirety again, it feels like there are too many different powers. You can freeze people, burn them, electrocute them, poison them, blow them up, shoot them, or absorb their attacks and then send the force back at them. That's seven different types of attacks.
Of course, you can't use all of these powers all the time, but you've got so many options it doesn't really matter. You've got options for dealing with both organic AND robotic targets. You can attack powerfully both short range AND long range. And on top of that you stress that he'll typically have followers with him and he's got an ability to take special advantage of that too. With such a wide range of options, I'm having a hard time thinking of a combat situation that Rigmar could not deal with. Enemies hiding in cover? Missiles, gas pellets, or just shoot through the cover with the pistol. Enemies shooting from long range? Pistol. Enemies with melee weapons? Volt Knuckles, especially if their weapons are made of metal. Enemies with armor? Volt Knuckles or pistol. Robots? Cloak, or Volt Knuckles. Enemies gaining the upper hand at close range? Release a poison gas pellet. Overwhelmed? Send your followers into battle. Second: your weaknesses are all mental. There are none that are physical. But you've still got a physical strength in the roboticized body. I feel like there should be a physical weakness to go along with it. Perhaps you should think about the natural weaknesses that come from being a robot. Water can short out electronics, and so can excessive electricity. He'd probably need to keep himself well-cleaned and oiled, or sand and grit could hamper his movements. Robots I think would also be a tad slower and clunkier in their movements than a flesh and blood opponent. And like you said, if he has a part that breaks on him, then he'd need a specialized mechanic to patch up out in the field. Also, I just realized that it's odd how he himself is not affected by his own cloak. Robotnik and Mammoth may be major villains with lots of power, but both have physical weaknesses. Robotnik's machines typically only have a limited range of options when it comes to combat, and there are obvious exploitable flaws in his designs. People come and go from his "secure" bases all the time. Mammoth can't handle groups of enemies that well and he typically fights alone. This is significant when fights against major villains are usually done as a group, for balancing purposes. I hate to put you through this, but I just don't feel comfortable after reading the profile as a whole again. To sum up what I'd like to see, I would prefer physical weaknesses and fewer options for physical combat. My top picks for removal would be the Volt Knuckles and the Cloak, because it sounds like you can use either of those any time you want and they give too many benefits in battle. That would give you limited options in close range combat (since you'd only have fire fists as a close range weapon), but I think this is balanced by having followers around you and lots of long range attacks. Plus I think you said that you don't want Rimgar to fight much at close range anyway. |

RE: Rimgar
Not to sound too much like a yes man here, but I have to agree with Nail's points. I understand you want to round out a character, but to ape General Tzu, if you are strong every where, then you are strong nowhere. A jack of all trades is possible, but their flexibility typically, and naturally always comes at the cost of specialization.

RE: Rimgar
Alright, give me some more time to rethink this. I'll have a new draft ready... Well, sometime. I graduate this week you see, and I will be moving to California soon after. I may need to delay this even more until I have time to post it.
By the way, where is Pa'Qita's application? I don't see it anywhere. My Profile |
