Vacation Time Again - Chadin - 09-19-2012 02:42 PM

Just as a heads up, but as of this saturday, I'll be heading down to Mexico for a week long vacation. This will effect Chadin, Mammoth Mogul and Rampage. Hopefully I'll be able to work out a way to temporarily have those characters 'disappear' while I'm gone so I won't slow the rest of you down, but otherwise, feel free to skip past me till I'm back.

Have fun.

Man...your last vacation was only in February. Wish I had the money to take vacations that often, but alas it's hard to do that with owning your own house and all.

Anyway, hope you have lots of fun.

Hah, have fun in Mexico~
Dancing with pretty women, eating tons of spicy foods~
Just don't drink the water, aye?

I know it seems like I just got back from one vacation, but, new year = new holidays... that just happen to be really close to one another, I know. Anyway, just as a heads up, the week after next will see me down in Disney world for a couple weeks. Unfortunately this means I won't have net access for a while so... yeah... apologies. Worse come to worse, everyone can just ignore my characters for the time being whilst I'm gone.

Dude...what holidays do you have in Canada this time of year that you get off for? In most companies in the U.S., no one gets off from work for a holiday between New Year's Day (Jan 1) and Memorial Day (last Monday of May). If you're lucky (or you work for the government) you may get off Martin Luther King Day and/or President's Day, but aside from that you're out of luck between January and May. It just wears on your soul thinking about it. My company will let me off for Good Friday though, so I consider myself very fortunate.

Too bad I'm not going to be there at Disney World. I've been there a zillion times and I know my way around the theme parks as good as the city I live in. What all are you planning to see? You going to hit all the theme parks and the water parks? Also, if you return to Orlando again, Universal Studios is definitely worth a look too. After all, they have Islands of Adventure, which has Harry Potter Land Smile

I have a vacation planned myself, but not until May. This is a trip I've been dreaming about for a long time, and now I think it's time to finally do it. I'm going to go to JAPAN! WHOOOOO! Sure the ticket cost me $1550, but I have a long-time (10+ years) Internet friend I'm staying with while I'm in Tokyo. That will help a lot. I asked for a language course in Japanese for Christmas, so that's what I'm going through right now.

It helps when the bosses are fairly lenient on the time off and such. I probably won't get any holidays until next year except MAYBE the odd day off, but yeah, I'm very grateful they are giving me the time off.

In any event, yes, I am planning to hit all the major parks and water parks inside Disney world, plus Universal. Ever since me and my brother played roller coaster tycoon all those years ago we've wanted to hit a REAL coaster park, so Universal in particular is going to be awesome!! Big Grin

Congrats on the trip to Japan. Unfortunately, Japan's not really a place I'd want to visit. I'm not all that big a fan of Anime, which most of my friends who DO want to visit there are. I'm not really big on the idea of learning a whole other language in order to visit and enjoy myself. And lets face it, Japan is crowded enough without me. I've never been to a park like Disneyworld so I'm not sure how well I'll react to the crowds there, but I've always known that I likes my elbow room.

In any event, I hope you enjoy your trip.

On a side note, what exactly do you mean by that no holidays thing? Up here I'm not aware of any one NOT letting you go on vacations in January or February. We don't have any National or Provincial holidays aside from new years, if that's what your talking about though. Hell! As far as I'm aware, January and February are popular times to GO on vacations because of the winters here. Hence the term "Snow Birds".

Though, I'll tell you what, after coming back from a vacation in a tropical climate, the weather feels even colder than when you left!

If it's rollercoasters you're after, I think you would be happier with a Six Flags park. They definitely don't have the magic or whimsy of Disney/Universal but you do get a lot more coasters (wooden and metal) to try out. I remember Six Flags Over Texas being especially amazing when I went there ten years ago.

Most of the Disney/Universal parks only have one or two true rollercoasters each. The rest of the attractions would all be water rides, dark rides, stage shows, etc. I'm not saying that's bad, mind you. Many of the non-rollercoaster attractions are very good. One of my favorites from Universal for example is the Terminator stage show.

Yeah, I was talking about national holidays. In America, wherever you work, the bare minimum for holidays off is New Years Day (Jan 1), Memorial Day (last Monday of May), Independence Day (July 1), Labor Day (second Monday of September), Thanksgiving (last Thursday of November), and Christmas (December 25). Notice how New Years Day and Memorial Day are the only national holidays in the entire first half of the year, and there's nearly a five month gap between those two. It sucks if that's what you're stuck with. That's what I had at my last job.

You can definitely take a vacation during the winter if you want though. But since most Americans don't travel outside of America, they prefer to wait until summer to travel around so there's more places with pleasant weather to go to.

Anime's not the reason I want to visit Japan, because I think I've grown out of it. If I do watch anime, it's usually something from my teen days that I get nostalgic over.

Primarily, it's because the culture interests me. I think what convinced me to go now was reading the book Shogun by James Clavell. The book is set in the 1600s and is primarily about the first Englishman who manages to reach Japan. You learn a lot about Japanese culture over the course of the book, not to mention a fair amount of Japanese too. Because of the book I learned two phrases that I think will be very useful while I am there: wakarimasu and wakarimasen, respectively "I understand" and "I don't understand" Smile I am now reading the sequel Gai-Jin, which is set in the 1800s.

Learning a new language is never easy, but finally getting to understand the mechanics of Japanese thrills me. I'd like to be able to follow the conversation when watching an unsubbed Japanese program on Youtube, or when I'm playing one of my imported games. Not to mention I'd love to be able to read some Japanese as well. I do know a handful of characters now, but not near enough to get by unfortunately. However it's not as bad as I thought it would be. I think you can get by with knowing Hiragana and Katakana, and there's only about 60 characters total in those sets.
