Roval Arms - Nail Strafer - 06-21-2011 01:25 PM

Residents of Soleanna shun it. The tour guides quickly shoo visitors to the city away from it. No guidebooks mention it. Dozens of citizens have gone to the town council to have it torn down. And yet it still stands proudly (at least, that's what its ancestral and current owners believe) in the center of Old Towne...the old Roval Arms Apartment building.

Large Echidna statues adorn the grand front columns, with tribal markings and hieroglyphics coloring much of the exterior. Palm trees, exotic, huge flowers, and other native plants to Angel Island adorned the yard and make their own jungle. The only English word present is "ROVAL" across the grand front porch.

The locals reacted in horror when old Adam Roval, a business tycoon and a great admirer of Echidna culture, built it 80 years ago. All the other residents have been trying to get it torn down ever since. They call it an eyesore in the otherwise European character of the rest of the city. Alas, Adam had far too much money for them to do anything about it. So it has stood ever since.

However, after Adam died, the Roval family businesses plunged with him and so did the money. So much, that his heirs were forced to make the mansion an apartment building to bring in money to keep it from being torn down.

It's now a shadow of its former self, with the grand jungle garden all but dead and taken over by local weeds. Graffiti adorns the grand Echidna pillars and sides of the building. Brass fixtures that used to be shined every day by loyal servants now lay dull and scratched. The place barely makes enough money to break even every month from its tenants.

But there are rumors that old man Adam hid his fortune somewhere deep inside the building, and more than a few people (some of them more legally than others) have gone looking for it. There are even more rumors that many who search end up missing too. But that hasn't stopped others from trying after them. Maybe your character might be the one to find the loot?

[From Twisting Pavement]

Giichi eased the Ferrari into a public parking lot near the Roval Arms, making sure to park away from the other cars so as to avoid dings from opening car doors. As they stepped out of the car, the cat took in the silliness of such a thing here. It really did look like someone had just taken one of those Echidna pyramids from the Mystic Ruins and simply plopped it right into the middle of town. The only things distinguishing it as modern would be that it had glass windows in places.

"Well...there it is. I thought you'd find it interesting. A crazy old business tycoon named Adam Roval built the place many years ago. It was his mansion. As a side venture to his normal business, he liked archaeology, and you can probably guess what his favorite ancient culture was. What do you think?"

Terra stared at the structure as he listened to the breif history behind it. This was rather interesting to him and for some unknown reason the place sent a chill down his spine. He approached one of the echidna statues and pressed his palm against it. Aside from his parents he had never seen another echidna and these seemed to resemble ones he heard in stories as a child. He turned and faced Giichi as he asked his question.

"This has defiantly grasped my attention, I like it." He replied approaching the closest door. "How about we go take a look?" He inquired

RE: Roval Arms - Giichi Twinkieland - 07-08-2011 11:17 AM

"Sure, let's do it," Giichi said, grinning as they stepped in through the large oak doors nearby.

While the doors dwarfed the pair, they appeared to have seen better days. Lots of nicks, scratches, and carvings covered the wood. Regardless, Giichi actually struggled a bit to push them in with their weight.

A dusty entrance lobby greeted the pair on the other side. Broad stone pillars extended to the ceiling, while the lights illuminated murals along the walls. These murals covered crucial events in Echidna history. In fading (but possibly once richly painted) colors, one detailed the legend of Chief Pachacamac trying to take the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald for his clan from the sacred shrine, thus incurring the wrath of the god Chaos. It really did feel like they were in a temple, which made the electric light chandeliers overhead very offputting.

As Giichi examined the Pachacamac mural, he glanced off to the side and saw someone sitting in a poofy red chair in the corner, reading a newspaper. She too was dressed in Echidna style, obviously going after the famous Tikal's look. But she definitely wasn't Echidna, which made the clothing look very bizarre on her. Instead, she appeared to be a chestnut brown dog with a very short, pointed tail and short, floppy ears.

Giichi tilted his head sideways, as the woman noticed them. A frown crossed her face, but then it was replaced by a forced-looking smile as she rose from her chair to walk over to them.

"Greetings, you two. What can I do for two gentlemen this fine evening? Are you considering renting here? I'm sure you know the history of this place."

Giichi immediately took a dislike to her, with the way she was hiding her obvious displeasure with them being there. Regardless, he too returned a fake smile.

"My friend and I want to have a tour of the building, if that's all right with you."

The forced smile quickly melted away, as she realized she wasn't going to be selling them a unit.

"This is an apartment building, not a museum. We don't give tours. If you want to look around on your own, fine, but I've got better things to do."

And with a huff she quickly spun around and retook her seat, loudly shuffling her newspaper back to the section she'd left off at.

"It's okay..." Giichi muttered quietly to Terra, so she wouldn't hear. "I don't like her anyway."

Terra's mind was lost in the seemingly endless murals. The story of those who could possibly be his ancestors were scattered across the wall. He was so intuned to his own thoughts he failed to see Giichi interact with the lady at first. Soon after the sound of voices were heard he turned to see the female, instantly getting a bad vibe. He simply remained quiet and allowed the sand cat to do the talking. He himself wasn't too sucsessful when it came to communicating with absolute strangers.

"I don't think we were in her best regards, let's heed her advice and take a tour." He whispered back, keeping a stern eye on the dog.

"I couldn't help but notice you were off to the side while we were talking," he said, continuing to speak in a low voice. The cat gave another glance to the murals lining the walls. A small grin flashed across his face. "Were you looking at those? I knew you'd like this place."

Another mural caught his eye, with this one prophesying the first confrontation on Angel Island between Sonic and Robotnik. Supposedly this one could be seen in the Hidden Palace on the floating island. Giichi had an eye for antiquity, being a thief and all. This mural looked like a pretty close replica from what photographs he'd seen in books.

"That's...amazing...isn't it? Especially with all the blues and purples. In ancient times, cool pigments like blue and purple were hard to come by. You'd have to travel halfway around the world to find these blue rocks to grind up to make the paint. It's no big deal to us now...but the original version of this... It's just breathtaking the effort this would have required."

"That woman doesn't exactly seem trustworthy." He replied somewhat loud as if he didn't care if she heard or not. "Plus I cannot pull my mind away from these murals. For some strange reason I feel as if I have experianced all inscribed events firsthand." He continued, turning his back on the dog. He then nodded in agreement to Giichi's statement. "That is indeed amazing. Whoever founded this establisment had astounding potential." He responded with a feeble smile.

RE: Roval Arms - Giichi Twinkieland - 07-19-2011 10:37 AM

Dog Lady didn't seem to care what they were saying, as she continued reading her newspaper. As soon as she knew they weren't buying a unit, they had ceased to exist to her. Giichi shrugged at Terra's comments about her.

"She's just trying to sell apartments. We're not renting here, so I don't think it really matters if we can't trust her."

Giichi moved closer to the Sonic figure in the blue mural for a closer look...but then from upstairs the two would hear a loud blast of rock and roll music. Even though it was muffled by the stone masonry, the guitars and drums echoed through the building like gunfire. The cat grit his teeth as he continued trying to concentrate on the artistry, but the music was just too damn loud. As usual, Dog Lady didn't seem to notice.

"Man...we should go upstairs and tell them to quiet down. I can't concentrate like this."

RE: Roval Arms - Terrador Bellator - 07-19-2011 10:56 AM

As Terra was about to comment on Giichi's perspective on the dog woman, the music punished his eardrums like nails on a chalkboard. Loud things such as this irritated him tremendously. His hands cuffed his ears almost instantly.

"I couldn't agree with you more!" He shouted through the noise. He then began to wander around the area in search for the nearest stairs to lead him upstairs. This area was unfamilier and combined with the music tearing away at his eardrums he becane flustered and lost. It would only be a matter of time before he lost his temper and all hell would break lose.

RE: Roval Arms - Giichi Twinkieland - 07-19-2011 01:16 PM

Terra would find a set of stairs at the back of the hallway that would lead them to an upstairs corridor. While this one was smaller than the front hallway, it still had the same rich murals on the wall. Tattered, faded red carpet covered the floor, although it was obvious that at one point it had been shining red and well cleaned.

After running down the hallway, he'd come to a door where the music was obviously coming from. "301" trimmed in faded brass letters shined on the chipped wooden portal. At this point, he'd be able to even hear the lyrics of the song.

"Seen your face in a movie....and I'm crying at the moon! And I call that tunnel vision! And I'm strapped in for the truth! And I call that tunnel vision! Yeah switch to tunnel vision! AAIIIIIIIIIIAAAAaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!"

No doubt the scream from beyond the door would be absolutely earsplitting to the two of them. As Giichi made it to the top of the stairs, he actually had to pause for a moment to fold his pointed ears down against his head, to keep the sound from deafening him.
