The "no crossovers" rule - Kitty O'Brien - 05-31-2010 10:25 PM A long while ago, I tried to write a character profile for Bowser, the famous villain character of the Mario series. To my surprise, it was instantly shot down; apparently it violated a "no crossovers" rule somewhere. But I think I know where I crossed the line. Here's my question. Would Bowser have violated the aforementioned rule if he were not an explicit crossover, but rather a "reinvention" of the character to make him fit the Sonicverse? He would still have most of his main recognizable traits (he would still be able to breathe fire and so forth), but (for example) he would not explicitly be from another dimension, and he would be Sonic-styled to begin with. Mind giving a general overview of his backstory to adapt to this universe? We're quite a bit laxer on rules than we were before. RE: The "no crossovers" rule - Kitty O'Brien - 06-02-2010 06:19 AM Well, in the Mario games Bowser didn't have much of a known backstory to begin with. He was just... there. ...or were you asking something else? RE: The "no crossovers" rule - Nail Strafer - 06-02-2010 07:37 AM I just wanted to know the gist of your backstory for Bowser after he's been reinvented for the Sonic verse. Because I will need one before I can approve your profile, you know. RE: The "no crossovers" rule - Kitty O'Brien - 06-03-2010 08:27 AM ... Well, er... To be perfectly honest, I haven't figured that part out yet. RE: The "no crossovers" rule - Dr. Robotnik - 06-07-2010 12:50 AM Well, I'd get going on that then. You don't need to write out a full backstory right now though. Like I said, just give me the gist of it so I can see what I think of this idea. RE: The "no crossovers" rule - Kitty O'Brien - 06-19-2010 10:53 PM (I hate all the multiple accounts. Makes it impossible to tell whether I'm talking to the same person or not. That's why I always use this account for non-roleplay matters.) It's been a bit tough to come up with something, but here's what I've got so far. Before the Shattering, Bowser was the king of an island nation outside of the Aftermath map. The event wiped the nation out of existence, dropping the poor king in the middle of the ocean. He washed up on the shore, found out about the conflict, and decided to take Eggman's throne for himself. Is that any good? It's very skimpy on detail, but I'll fill in the blanks later. RE: The "no crossovers" rule - Nail Strafer - 06-20-2010 01:31 AM If you see any of the following: Nail, Dr. Robotnik, Giichi Twinkieland, it's me. Anyway, so, only he survived? Nothing else of his kingdom? Hmm...were it me I'd just take the next step and make him a new character entirely. Then again we did have Noka around for a long time and he was a koopa, so it's not like there isn't a precedent for this. Me, personally, I probably would allow it. But I don't feel good about doing it without word from other staff members. What do you think, guys? RE: The "no crossovers" rule - Kitty O'Brien - 06-21-2010 03:35 AM You know what? Screw it. This is getting to be much more trouble than it's worth. Go ahead and delete my Bowser account. I don't think it's going to see any use. |
