Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Sonic - 10-14-2008 02:21 PM Well I just finished the game. Having completed it I can think of 2 main criticisms. One is the lack of enemy variety. Especially near the last half, where there tends to be just one or two types of specific enemy groups you encounter over and over again. The earlier levels seemed to have a few more, even if many were upgrades of a previous area's enemies. I will however give a deserved two thumbs up to the level design and combat system. The other main complaint's fine details I'll keep to myself since it would involve a spoiler of some degree. I think I could sum it up in a way by saying the game is too short and easy for my RPG tastes. There are other minor gripes as any game has and other minor good parts as well that I won't go listing off. I can't wait to see how much they'll refine everything in the sequel in response to the criticisms people have of this first one. RE: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Alarielle - 10-14-2008 03:53 PM A great game, what I've played through so far. Just gotten to the chapter where you acquire the defector... that should make sense to anyone who's played without revealing the plot. My main gripes are with the menu system - it takes forever to change from screen to screen - very annoying. And levelling is a chore after a while. It almost feels like grinding... But yeah. Great game, can't wait for more Sonic DS action ^^ RE: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Sonic - 10-14-2008 05:17 PM The difficulty level makes grinding completely unnecessary to be perfectly honest. Any extra leveling just makes the last boss TOO easy. lol RE: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Alarielle - 10-15-2008 02:12 AM Funny that. I'm struggling at the moment - too many multiple hit combos that aren't POW moves and thus blockable are utterly savaging me. I suppose it might have helped if I hadn't skipped through Blue Ridge so quickly... XD RE: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Sonic - 10-15-2008 04:27 AM No that's just the way of the game really. Rewardingly difficult in the first half with difficulty dropping constantly in the last quarter or so, more or less. Depending on how proficient one is with getting perfect runs on the POW sequences of your characters and the enemies. RE: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Alarielle - 10-15-2008 06:16 AM You're kidding me - the difficulty drops? Madness. Well I think I'm going to start again, simply so I can use the knowledge I've accrued to set my team up better for the road ahead. One thing you can certainly say about SC: DB is that it has replay value! RE: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Sonic - 10-15-2008 03:42 PM Its fine in difficulty until the last quarter. Not much need to restart I'd say. RE: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Metallix - 10-21-2008 01:48 PM Oh no, of course not the Kron are freakin' impossible - dealing 1dp/hit and they have like 400hp?One thing I love is the massive amount of flexibility with choosing teams. And taking Cream is a dilemma - do I take her and hope I hit her POW moves each and every turn? Having a maxed out Revive skill is darned handy - refilling POW gauges makes her well worth taking, as everyone then dishes out the damage you lose by not taking an extra attacking character. Until I figured Cream out properly, I was using Sonic, Shadow, Knux andE123. Maximum pain, no let-up. But since I realised how to use Cream, I've had to think about things... this is most definitely the first RPG I've played whereby I don't automatically go for all-out assault. I blame FFVII, that game was win for all-out attack... RE: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Sonic - 10-21-2008 04:12 PM Max out Rouge's plunder and she always steals a third-tier HP or PP restorative item from enemies. You can basically amass a huge stockpile. The Kron require the characters who have defence-ignoring attacks like Knuckles' Uppercut. The world after that have enemies who just aren't fair no matter how you look at it creating two worlds in a row with an increasingly strange difficulty spike, and then the difficulty after that drops down pathetically. Of course I had Cream always recharging my PP every round and Rouge's stockpile of PP Drinks to keep my best moves flying. XD RE: Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Yolanda Riona - 10-22-2008 12:27 AM You guys talking about this makes me wanna play it. Knowing how picky I am though combined with the fact that it's a new Sonic game, I'd probably tear it apart. But then, maybe not. Despite '06 being insanely lame here and there, there were still interesting things/game play. We shall see~ |
