Character Rules - Links Tyrell - 10-06-2008 07:48 AM Character Rules 01 – Accounts A lot of players, myself included, will have a lot more than a single character or will want to play as more than a single character. As such, here at Aftermath you have the option of playing up to four. You don’t have to use them all and you can simply play one if that is your wish. The only condition is that, in order to keep a level of balance between good and evil, you must have at least 1 good and 1 bad character if you take 3 or more characters. Players taking more than one character should state at the top of their submitted profile who else they play so the ‘Who plays who?’ list can be updated accordingly. 02 – Character Actions Whilst acting normally your character is not bound by any real time frame. They can do as they like so long as its in fitting with the rest of the people in topic. During battles though the time span of each post is dramatically sped up as people react to others in a few moments. As such you can’t go on doing endless amounts of actions per post during battles. For the sake of simplicity we normally say two actions per post. An action would be an attack, a defense move, moving dramatically, etc. Thinking doesn’t cost an action but excessive talking does! Bear that in mind before going off on long speeches mid battle. 03 – Death Here at Aftermath we like to offer a little safety net to our players. Some RPG’s out there have the rules that you can be killed, period! Here we say you can be killed…but only if the player agrees to it. So while a wound might be hideously paralysing it won’t kill you unless you want it to. There is an exception to this rule and that is the staff. They can, under certain situations, invoke character death if they feel a person is either pushing things too far or goding to a large degree. A warning will normally be sent first stating the situation but if they continue to act as they are admin death will be invoked. 04 – Character Additions Along the way you may think of new ideas or concepts you wish to put into an existing character. This is completely allowed but depending on the addition you should take different actions. Changes to appearance are allowed without any form of approval however you should flag it up in your profile so that people know. Any other addition will require a staff member to approve your additions. You should re-post the parts of your profile that you are changing in the approvals forum indicating what is changing or what you are adding. The staff will then cast a verdict on if they like the changes or if something will have to be re-worked. Once approved you are free to update your profile and carry on playing. 05 – Acceptable and Unacceptable Character Aspects Everyone wants their characters to be special…however, too many ‘special’ characters makes them all look common. As such the use of certain things in your characters background are allowed and some are not. This depends largely on your way of describing it however we have seen too many cloned ‘Ultimate Lifeforms’, more than enough time travellers or dimension jumpers and a good handful of interplanetary beings. Now, we do allow alternate planet origins providing you can justify how and why they are here. Genetic experiments and clones are completely out though. If you use this approach we WILL ask you to change it. We also do not allow alternate universes without a VERY good explanation. Generally though if you can explain how and why something is included in your character profile then we will listen to it and consider the options.
