I think Jav started throwing it together in response to this board's death being imminent, so he hasn't been working on it for long (a few months). Yeah, I could see the Jonny liking this guy. Since Jonny liked to steal from other thieves, I could see some pilfered item going back and forth between them as they try to outdo the other. Shame we never got to run them together. =/ RE: Been a lot of changes - Nail Strafer - 12-14-2014 02:10 AM Were you really that ashamed of that Megaman/Sonic crossover? I'd say it's one of the most memorable fics I've ever read on FF.Net. I still remember the beginning exceedingly well, when Jonny pretends to be a furry to earn the Freedom Fighter's trust, then reveals himself to be a human, and then allows them to stay inside his Dr. Wily-esque fortress. It was pretty cool also showing the Freedom Fighters fighting Robotnik on even terms for once with Jonny's help. RE: Been a lot of changes - Briar Standard - 12-15-2014 01:56 PM I suppose all I see in it are the flaws. How easily Robotnik could have been taken out if Jonny had just reprogrammed a SWATbot to just walk up to Robotnik and self destruct. The awful romance with the other OC, the mild gary stuness that's in Jonny's backstory and behavior, the lame dialogue, wasted potential for characters, bad pacing... I could go on, but I'm a harsh critic when it comes to my own work these days. Of course, when you first met me I couldn't take any criticism well. XD RE: Been a lot of changes - Nail Strafer - 12-17-2014 12:22 AM Mild Gary Stueness can be forgiven if the character is interesting and enjoyable, and Jonny definitely was. I never saw the crossover with Megaman coming so I guess that's why I liked it so much. I actually don't think of Jonny as much of a Gary Stu since he doesn't fit the traditional mold. The traditional Gary Stu is a buffed-up anti-hero man of action who eats nails for breakfast, pumps iron at the gym, gets all the girls, and shoots first and asks questions later. Jonny was the opposite of that, using his intelligence and inventions to win the day. The only thing that feels Gary Stuish would be his backstory, but even then there wasn't a large focus on it so it didn't bother me a lot. Who was the other OC again? I can't remember. You know, I'm considering reading a chapter or two of your MLP fic even if I'm not done with the 30-chapter Star Fox story I'm reading. I think I need a break from that other fic, since it's starting to drag and get boring. Want me to review yours here? I dunno if I wanna make an account on FimFiction just for one story. RE: Been a lot of changes - Briar Standard - 12-19-2014 03:36 PM Your call man. My readers are always calling out little grammar errors, and I still have a tendency of using gratuitous commas but hopefully you'll have a good experience. Ali-Su, the female echidna that was jonny's bland, forced love interest. Granted this never reached Ryan from Author's Nightmare 2 levels of Gary Stu, I still felt Jonny could do a little too much in the time he had. One guy did all that? sure he had robots helping him, and brought stuff with him from Wily's castle, but it was a weak excuse. Of course, it was my first fic so I can at least blame inexperience with the medium. But if you liked Jonny, you'll like Jack in Lord Barleycorn. I haven't revealed much about him, that's part of the mystery thus far. |
