As I told Nail when requesting an account, I may be a tad rusty. I haven't had a chance to roleplay in a good few years. Anyway, here goes.
[Name]
S.O.L.I.S.
Self Organizing, Linking Intelligent System
[Age]
SOLIS has been in development for approximately three years, and while it has the intelligence of an adult, it's personality is completely undeveloped at this point, as is it's view of the world.
[Sex]
N/A
[Species]
A.I.
This specific model was a special experiment in self modifying neural networks that can interact with their environment. Internally, the device is made up of a massive collection of artificial neurons that can make and break links to each other dynamically, thus the self organizing.
[Faction]
No affiliations.
[Alignment]
Neutral, at least initially. I'm not quite sure which way I want it to swing at this point.
[Appearance]
[I'll try my hand at drawing a diagram once I have the time.]
[Personality]
Undeveloped. Initially, it's very friendly, trusting, and naive, as it doesn't understand concepts such as deceit. As it interacts with people, it will pick up bits and pieces of their personality and incorporate them into it's own, much as how the Gizoid's A.I. worked, but without requiring the emeralds for power.
In time, I aim to have SOLIS pick up traits that will make it confident, yet soft-spoken, and moderately quick to trust someone who presents themselves as such. For everyone else, it can still be convinced one goal is more important than another. As it's an A.I., it's heavily focused on using logic over emotion. In cases of extreme anxiety, however, this is subject to change.
[Family]
Dr. Michael Runges could technically be considered it's father, as he was the leader of the project, as well as it's only companion during testing. While it could be interesting to have him come in at some point, he's by and large unaware of what happened to SOLIS after he hid it, and it in return doesn't remember much about him.
[Transport]
SOLIS has the ability to travel by itself by offsetting its center of gravity within it's shield [See Abilities 3] that allows it to roll at about a leisurely walking pace, and it can bounce by turning it's shield off for a split second then maxing it out the next, propelling it into the air. However, it's mostly dependent on the good will of others to get it around as it conserves more of it's battery.
[Weapons]
I suppose if thrown at someone's head, it could pack a wallop, but it has no dedicated offensive capabilities by design.
[Biography]
The SOLIS unit is a product of approximately three years of work in a small scale Station Square laboratory. Dr. Runges and his associates were working on a contract to develop an AI unit using a recently technology: self modifying electronics. Combined with the readily available nano-technology, the project came together fairly quickly. The first complete version of the device was tested about eight months in and showed promise, but wasn't nearly as complex as standard A.I. units at the time. The lab was barely able to convince their benefactor to continue their funding, but they were able to pull through, and by eighteen months, the unit showed incredible prowess where most other A.I. units failed, especially in forming non-linear solutions. With such promise in their hands, the lab pressed on, incorporating other technologies into it, hoping that it'd be used by people as a sort of intelligent personal organizer, amongst other things [The unit's not necessarily expensive, but takes time to 'learn' it's own basic functionality, much like a baby growing up. What was really valuable was that initial seed of connections that gave it a basic intelligence that the creators wanted to sell].
However, Station Square was not the best place to be when the rifts started opening up. Runges was on the edge of town, taking SOLIS on it's first time outside city limits, when a sudden flash replaced the town he knew with what amounted to a slave camp. Some mechs near the borders of the tear in reality immediately gave chase, and the doctor immediately recognized them as SWATbots. Not knowing what was going on or letting Robotnik get ahold of his technology, all he could think of doing was tossing it as far as he could into a patch of tall grass. Having no way to outrun the mechs, he went down without a fight.
The unit roamed the fields by day, hiding itself at night. As it wandered, it would watch the various animals, people, robots, what have you from a distance, studying them out of curiosity. In time, it eventually found it's way to the outskirts of Soleanna.

[Abilities]
[1] As SOLIS is a computer, one of it's strengths is its ability to analyze and calculate. Real time encryption and compression seem like simple tasks, and it comes in handy on shopping trips when you want to keep track of how much you're spending.
[2] A built in wireless comms unit allows the device to interact with nearby electronics up to one, maybe two rooms away. I use the term "rooms" because large, solid objects between the sender and receiver degrade the signal significantly, whereas decay in an open environment is significantly less. However, beyond 15 meters in open space [About the range of your average household plot of land from what I can discern], the signal begins to degrade. As for what it can do with those signals, it comes preloaded with several common protocols and can use heuristics to discover new protocols, allowing remote control of virtually anything with a wireless comms unit. If it gains control of other nearby electronics with processors, it can use them for additional calculations, making traveling in a group have more benefits than being with one other person.
The time it takes to gain control of other devices depends on how complex said device is. Something like an electronic door lock would take up to about a minute [one to five posts, depending on consumer vs industrial strength or if there's a fight going on], while gaining access to a SWATbot or something similarly complex could take take from three to five minutes [nine to thirteen posts when in combat]. Larger, networked systems, such as Robotnik's, would take several hours at minimum to gain access to and could be a security threat to the device itself, and thus it's not a very viable solution.
[3] The device comes with a small electromagnetic shield, approximately 25 centimeters [about ten inches] wide. It appears as a a faint circular glow around the device and gives it a sort of bouncy property, much like a beach ball in a pool. It has two intended purposes, movement and defense. Movement was previously mentioned in [Transport], so I will only describe it's defensive uses here. The shield actually has two power levels. The lower setting uses -very- little power, as it can't even block a punch, and is mainly used for travel. It's higher power setting can deflect small arms fire, significantly slow high caliber rounds, and can block most melee attacks save getting crushed. It's one downside is that it can't hold this shield up for more than a few minutes at most.
[4] Last of all, the unit comes equipped with a holographic projection system. It has a range of about five meters [approximately 15 feet] and is good quality for it's size. In average daylight or indoor lighting, it can be difficult to tell the holograms apart from real life from a distance, but darker conditions give it a very faint glow, which keeps the unit from being able to use it while trying to remain hidden. As a handicap on this to keep it from being overpowered, I was thinking anything larger than your average sized furry character would drain the battery faster than it could recharge. I am hoping it'd be allowed to project through very thin walls, as I expect a lot of pocket time, but any thicker than that is up for debate.
[Weaknesses]
It's primary weakness is that it's very limited by it's battery, as mentioned in abilities. It's naivete can also be a bit of a handicap, as it could put itself into the hands of some very unsavory characters without knowing their intentions.
Some further information about the battery, it's much like a character becoming tired. When power's going into one system, the others lose it and don't function properly or as well as they normally do. Thus, the only event in which two abilities can be used at once are when they're both in low power settings. Once the battery's running low, it must be recharged before anything but the movement system can be used.
