Appearance:
Normal black and white striped fur colour of a typical badger. Left side of face has been robotizied. Left side of chest, shoulder and left arm are also completely cybernetic. Wears a sleeveless red uniform with an Robotnik emblem on his right breast. Pants are black with yellow stripes. Red knee pad and shin guard armour protects those areas. See picture for full appearance.
Weapons:
ML-284 MALR (Mauler)
Stats:
Rounds: Capable of firing off 50 rounds prior to Cool Down in a sustained burst of fire.
Rate of Fire: High
Cool Down Period: 1-2 posts depending on # of rounds fired prior to cooling period.
Recoil: High
Accuracy: Low
Weight: 7.1 Kg
The ML-284 MALR (Medium-power Assault Laser Rifle) or Mauler as it is typically referred as is weak by most standards of laser guns available, it has one significant advantage over many other laser guns. It never needs reloading. Its other main advantage is its high rate of fire. The natural downside however to this is that the high recoil and high rate of fire means the Mauler is very inaccurate, but in theory, the sheer number of shots put out will help compensate. Of course, like a machine gun, getting a 50% accuracy rating is nearly impossible without precise, well-controlled bursts. The weapon is also fairly heavy, so it is not ideal in a fast-paced, highly mobile gun fight.
The Mauler has a built in micro-fusion power plant that constantly pulls hydrogen gas from the air to fuel the reactor. The energy provided by the reactor powers the laser mechanism which then incorporates the helium ion by- products of the fusion process to become the laser projectiles the weapons discharges. This does not however mean that the weapons can be continuously fired indefinitely.
The weapon has a habit of over-heating if not given time to cool and just because the fusion core you're using is small, doesn't mean a self destruction would be any less destructive as any other nuclear explosion. There are however fail safes designed to prevent such a critical failure of the core, but if those fail-safes come online, the weapon is forever useless. In fact it would be more accurate to say its more like an expensive metal bat at that point. If held in a sustained, fully automatic burst, the Mauler can fire off 50 rounds before automatic shut down occurs.
This number can be drawn out if the user holds their fire intermittently but the longer the weapon goes without a good long cool down, the sooner the core will run out of energy and shut down.
The other limitation is that the weapon can fire much faster then the reactor can intact hydrogen atoms and produce helium ions. The result is, after that 50 shot mark the weapons firing mechanism is automatically disabled while the fusion core replenishes its supply of both fuel and by-product. In game-play that will take at least 2 rounds for a recharge cycle after 50 shots fired.
This process can take quite some time, and under combat situations, that time-delay can mean the difference between life and death. To further add to the delay, often times, the reactor overheats at about the same time weapon runs out of ion particles if not given brief periods to cool between bursts of fire. A full post without firing the weapon is needed to give the weapon time to cool But this does not reset the shot count. Once 50 shots have been reached, the weapon MUST recharge.
Robotnik's Arsenal:
This is sort of a gray area, even for me. Since Rampage is one of Robotnik's minions, he would likely have free access to Robotnik's vast array of weapons and vehicles. This in part is to make Rampage a credible threat to large groups of PC's when the inevitable battles start. This might be something as simple as an explosive device he plans to use to terrorize Solenna or a mid-size walker thing like what Robotnik might have. Any device that he might use is of course subject to admin approval, but I thought I'd put this part in just to make it clear he has a weapon slot that is open and subject to change from one mission to another. I will make certain that ANY item I bring is noted BEFORE starting a mission and that I will not start randomly pulling tactical nukes out of my pants.
Personality:
If one were to try and describe Rampage's personality, one could potentially break him down into three words: Trigger Happy Lunatic!!! But, seeing as this requires further explanation, I shall do so. Upon reading up on Ivan's, or rather, Rampage's past; it can be seen that his life has been much like that of a skyrocket. He rises to excel quickly, but ultimately comes crashing down.
Rampage hates those he considers 'soft': people who either can't or won't fight. He has no real friends to speak of because of his aggressive nature and he treats everyone, friend or foe with the same, aggressive, in-your-face, intimidating attitude. To him you're either someone to fight, or someone about to die. He only shows the faintest amount of respect for those he feels deserve it. And he could count them off on just one hand. He treats all social encounters the same and even if someone were to have a gun pointed straight at his head, he'd seem alarmingly calm and controlled about it. His face and his eyes especially betray no signs of fear whatsoever. In fact, with half his face now robotizied he's intimidating and unsettling just to look at. Yet despite not knowing well enough to be afraid when there is more then enough reason to be scared, he is deceivingly bright and intelligent. So he's not completely insane.
Rampage is a warrior. Pure and simple. He lives for the fight and he fights to live. He is not happy unless he is in the heat of combat and even when on the verge of death that thrill only drives him harder. There is no question that Rampage as he now solely goes by is a nut-case. But he has not lost his tactile sense. In the heat of combat, when others are freaking out or panicking, Rampage will think of clever and at times brilliant ways to turn the tables.
After spending so much of his life in a constant state of battle, Rampage fears nothing and hardly seems fazed from suffering injuries that others would be screaming in agony over. He's no super-man however, this frame of mind he seems to perpetually be in is similar to that of a Viking Berserker or a monk employing mind-over-matter. In the end this seeming strength may wind up being his death. In fact, it very nearly has once already.
Rampage still holds a deep, obsessive grudge against Sonic and his friends. They are the reason he is not half-badger, half-machine; and he hates them for it. Rampage wants nothing more than to make Sonic, his friends, and even any allies of his who had absolutely nothing to do with his disfigurement suffer dearly for what happened to him.
History:
Little is known about Rampage before he entered service with the royal army during the Overlander war. What is for certain however is that Rampage, or Ivan as he was known then, proved himself to be an exceptional soldier. Strong, tenacious and motivated, there were few battles where he played a significant role in its success. Even when wounded, Ivan would keep on fighting.
When the war ended, so to did Ivan's life; or so it seemed at first. After all, what good is a warrior when there is no war to be fought? Lucky for him, fate seemed to give him his answer. Ivo Robotnik overthrew the crown and declared himself ruler of Mobius. The rest of the planet's population took exception to this outrageous claim and fought back.
Ivan now had a new purpose.
Fighting alongside the Freedom Fighters, Ivan differed from his comrades who were fighting and dying for their freedom. Ivan? Ivan was there for the sake of fighting. But over time, Ivan began to get bored. The robots and automatons of Robotniks' army, while formidable, were not challenging enough for him. Always the Swatbots would attack in the same, tired old tactics. There was no thrill in that.
His allies however, they were a different story. The Freedom Fighters, while grossly outmatched and outnumbered used every advantage they could muster, skewed ever fight into 'their' fight. They, would be a challenge.
So Ivan changed sides.
In the greatest single acts of betrayal, Ivan lured Sonic the Hedgehog; the very symbol of the Freedom Fighters struggle, into a trap. Sonic was robotized and wreaked havoc across the planet until the Freedom Fighters managed to stop Mecha Sonic in an epic clash that eventually found its way into Robotnik's headquarters and the robotizier room itself. Despite Ivan's best efforts to stop them, the Freedom Fighters manage to trick Mecha Sonic into the robotizer and revert him back to normal.
Unfortunately, in doing so the Freedom Fighters had to overload the power supply and this caused the entire machine to overload and explode. Sonic and the Freedom Fighters managed to escape, but Ivan was caught in the blast. Just as Sonic was being dragged back out, he heard Ivan's screams of pain. Looking over his shoulder he could see that half of Ivan's face has been ripped off by the explosion and his entire arm and shoulder have been all but torn from his body. In a rare, darker moment, Sonic turned back around and left Ivan to his fate.
But instead of dying in the blast as Sonic expected he would, Robotnik had other plans. Using a back up robotizer tucked away deep within his headquarters, Robotnik partially robotized Ivan. With his new cybernetic parts, Ivan survived, but now he goes only by the name the good doctor christened him with: RAMPAGE.
Since then Rampage has been at the head of Robotnik's major operations. He has been a huge problem for the Freedom Fighter to have to deal with ever since. The cyber-enhancements have given Rampage a number of improvements; making an already formidable enemy even more dangerous. Like Bunnie Rabbot, Rampage's robotic arm gives him greatly increased strength, but only with that one arm. His cyborg eye allows him a range of options like night-vision and infrared. But this is hindered somewhat by the fact that he lacks depth perception in these modes. While well built and sturdy, Rampage's cybernetic parts are far from heavily armoured. Much like a Swat-bot these are just as vulnerable as much as they are formidable.
But as invaluable as Rampage has been to Robotnik, the sinister doctor didn't fully trust his wrathful minion and so installed 'fail-safes' into Rampages more vital Robotic parts. Thus, Robotnik has guaranteed Rampages' loyalty indefinitely by threatening to disable the robotic parts that now are the only thing keeping him alive. As much as Rampage resents what Robotnik did to him, he goes along with it simply because he is satisfied with always having a fight. But even with the threats looming over his head, there have been times when the Freedom Fighters suspiciously discovered one of Robotnik's most top-secret of projects and a major battle ensues as the Freedom Fighter attempt to thwart Robotnik's plans. Robotnik has as yet been unable to figure out for certain, but he has not put it past Rampage to have leaked that classified information simply to ensure he has a fight to wage. In truth this is very likely. For Rampage, he doesn't want Robotnik to succeed, nor does he want the Freedom Fighters to succeed. He wants to keep the war going forever so that he will always have a battle to wage.
This is how it has gone for several years. Rampage was just taking off at the head of a large invasion fleet when the dimensional merge occurred. At the time he was flying a standard hovercraft with a squad of six brand-new robots: Com-bots. These are more powerful robots with a slew of new features like stealth cloaks, high-powered weapons and increased armour. After the merge, rampage found himself still aboard the hovercraft with his six Com-bots but the invasion fleet was completely gone and the entire landscape had changed. For about a week afterward, Rampage has been flying around trying in vain to get his bearings. But now, after a week's searching, he has just stumbled upon a large city, and lo and behold he can see a large battle being waged with massive air ships in the sky. Rampage already can suspect what is happening, but one way or another, he plans to get in on the fun.
[Let me know if that last part with the Com-bots is okay. I basically wrote that in with the hope I could get this thing approved quick and get in on the battle at Solenna quickly and give our one villain some relief from all the heroes.]
Skills:
Combat:
Rampage possesses great fighting skill both with his primary assault laser and in hand to hand combat. While he can maintain a cool head while he is shooting, he tends to loose it when he enters a melee fight. He becomes wild, unpredictable and absolutely dead-set on ripping you limb from limb. With his already strong body and added strength of his mechanical arm, he may be able to do just that. He's not quite as strong as say Knuckles, but he's not far off.
Survivalist:
Because of his years of combat experience and own personal mentality, Rampage has become so accustomed to fear and pain that he no longer feels either sensation. In a fight, he fights fearlessly (which in itself can sometimes get him in trouble) and when hyped up on the adrenaline rush of an intense fist fight, he can fight on despite certain injuries longer then most others. in such situations he fights in a way very similar to how a berserker seems to take no heed to wounds suffered. On the flip side, because he hardly feels pain anymore, he doesn't always know when its time to call it quits, and can quite literally fight till he drops dead and doesn't really appreciate how badly wounded he is.
Moves:
Cybernetic Parts:
Enhanced Vision Modes: After the augmentations Ramage receives, his single robotic eye gives him the ability to see in a variety of vision modes, entailing night vision and infrared and can even magnify to a maximum of 5x magnification.
The downside however is that the vision enhancements only function for his one robotic eye. Meaning that when using magnification, Trigger's real eye still sees everything at normal magnification. This can both be confusing and also it means his depth perception is off kilter. The same goes for his other vision modes. While his one eye can see in the dark or see through smoke clouds using his infrared, his other eye would have as much difficulty as it normally would under such conditions so his aim can be off a bit when trying to shoot because of this.
Strengths:
Trigger is very tough and with his choice of weapon, very dangerous. He is also quite strong so in close quarters taking a hit from him and his powerful robotic arm is a good way to break some bones. With the seemingly limitless resources at Robotnik's disposal, Rampage has an near-bottomless pit worth of toys to use for just about every situation. Lastly, Rampage shrugs off injury and boldly does things in combat most people would never dare attempt.
Weakness:
Although he is tough and well armed, Trigger is woefully slow; both in terms of speed AND agility. He can't chase down enemies easily and while his choice in weapon compliments an entrenched game of hide and seek, the limitations mean too much firing and he can become very vulnerable for a time. Plus, while he can absorb a great deal of damage without loosing his head, that doesn't mean his body can actually survive such a beating. If shot, he'll keep on fighting, but all the while he might bleeding to death.
Agile opponents should try to evade as many shots as possible, causing his weapon to over heat, then move in close. Once there, any agile and skilled martial combatant should have little difficulty in evading his slow, but powerful attacks. His boldness may also yet be the undoing of him.
