I take in the wonderful air conditioning of my Volkswagen as I park in my vacation hotspot. Its a house I reserved for myself when I'm on vacation and I just love it. I turn off my car when I'm ready and take my computer and two weeks worth of clothes inside with me.
I open the door and it is very hot in there. I turn on the AC and it feels flamboyantly fresh as it hits me in the face. I take it all in even as I take a moment to heat up a sandwich.
I look outside and it appears there's a lot of people scrambling to buy an empty lot or to enter an apartment. I sit down at my lunch table and eat a roast beef sandwich with all the fixings. A lot like subway. I sit and relax while everyone scrambles to find a place to stay.
I take little bites of the sandwich and take a couple sips from my lemonade drink. It feels great to get something in me, even if it isn't the best situation that someone is apparently trying to take over an entire city. I brush it off. If Soleanna gets taken over, then I can just stay here the rest of my life. I'll have to worry about ninety degree weather but it should be fine.
I smile as I look outside, it appears that a lot of people are still searching for a place ot stay. I wish I could help. However, I don't want my private home to be a refuge for the unfortunate. It is a small town, but it isn't that small. I'm sure they'll find homes. Or apartments.
I walk into my kitchen and continue taking small bites of my sandwich and I get full by the time I finish half of the sandwich. I put the sandwich inside the refrigerator and I finish the glass of lemonade.
I smile wholeheartedly. "This will definitely be a fun day."
I don't know what to say. Its cool and breezy inside my house and there's people knocking on my door. I bet if I don't answer the door, they'll leave.
I stay inside and I don't wanna risk anything that might end up being a horrid choice. Its all, in the end, just a total graveyard of choices that lead to, good or bad choices, consequences. I ignore them without compunction. Its one thing to be courteous. Its another thing when you discover that the people you let inside are terrorists.
I'm very trustworthy, I'll admit that. However, at the same time I just want some time to myself and just relax. Maybe by the time I finish my two week vacation, the war at Soleanna will be over and life will go back to normal. Then, if Soleannna still stands, I'll be searching for Giichi and figuring out a way to get him to pay his taxes without him knowing it. It'll be so much fun.
As for right now, I just need to get Giichi out of my head. I sigh happily and enjoy the cool air.
Around this time, another person just entered the town. Gail Strafer rode in on his motorbike slowly, taking in the scene with much confusion.
Why are all these people here? Why do they look like evacuees?
In any case, he stopped in front of Tech's house to see a family of cats walking away from it. They gave a little sigh as they headed back towards the road. Definitely looked like they'd had to pack in a hurry, with their hurried and haggard look. Gail got off his bike and approached the man who looked like the father.
"Excuse me...can you tell me what's happening here?"
Father Cat heaved another sigh at the young wolf. "Son...where have you been?"
Gail would have laughed in his face if the situation weren't so serious. "I don't think you'd believe me."
Mr. Cat burst out laughing. "Trust me son, I think I would. Dimensional merge, right? It's affected everyone, not just you." After saying that, the cat nodded towards rising smoke clouds in the distance. "See that?" Gail had the feeling he wouldn't like what he was about to hear. "It's Soleanna...Robotnik's attacking the place. We're all the citizens who evacuated."
Gail's head jerked back to the cat instantly. "Say what?!"
"Yeah, I just hope the army can fend them off. Anyway, we need to find a place to stay for the night, but whoever's in there won't let us in."
Gail felt indifferent about that problem. He bet he'd lived considerably rougher than this family and his brood ever had. They probably had never slept under the stars once in their life. But with Soleanna gone...what would happen to the planet? It was the last free city in the world, from what he'd heard from others he'd met.
"Anyway...we'll just have to go somewhere else. See you." And with that, the cat family took off. Gail looked after them for a moment, before turning back to Tech's house. Should he try his luck?
He sat outside on his bike for a moment, considering his options. If Tech glanced out her window, she'd easily see the wolf sitting there at the curbside. It was hard to miss him with how big he was.
I notice somebody outside of the window, on the curbside. I walk toward the window and see a wolf. I voice my oppinion about Gail.
I smile in happiness that a cute wolf wants to come inside. "He's cute and he looks fairly muscular. I should let him in to get to know who this cute wolf is."
I open the door of my house. "Hey there, wolf. You may come in if you'd like."
I gesture for Gail to come inside.
Gail whipped his head up towards the sound of the voice. The wolf's yellow eyes bulged open at the sight. Considering Gail was still a young man, he had quite a bit of testosterone pulsing through him at all times. It was especially surging now seeing the foxy little lady inviting him into her home. When, in a million years, would he find himself in this situation again?
In the back of his mind, he supposed he should hate her for turning away the family, but Gail figured he should not look a gift horse in the mouth. Bringing it up would probably destroy his good fortune. He jumped off the bike, threw his backpack over his shoulder and marched right over to her, smiling all the way.
"Thank you very much." He thought about adding 'good looking' onto the end but thought it could spoil the mood. "What's your name? Mine is Gail."
I smile at the wolf for the sake of him being polite and it pleases me immensely. "Pleased to meet you Gail and you're very welcome. If you're only gonna give your first name then I'll do the same."
I gesture for the wolf to come inside. "My name is Tech. Its kind of a guy's name, but it doesn't bother me. Come in and make yourself at home. One last thing, if you do in fact get hungry just tell me and I'll fix you something. It won't bother me."
I walk into the house's kitchen and grab a cup from the cabinet. "Can I interest you in something to drink?"
Gail found it odd Tech pointed out he'd only used his first name. Wasn't that normal for someone you met informally for the first time?
Anyway, he followed her inside. When she asked if he wanted something to drink, he immediately went "Got any beer?" Immediately Gail regretted saying that, and let out a sheepish chuckle.
I've been hanging around Sam for too long. Usually one of the first things I do when I come over to visit.
"I'm sorry...I totally forgot where I was."
"That's okay sweetie, we all make mistakes."
I check the fridge and see if I can't find any beer. Hmm, no beer. I figure he's happy to be in here and I wanna make him feel welcome. I take out something similar to beer, although I don't drink it myself. I close the fridge and walk toward the sink and fill my cup with water.
I walk toward the kitchen table and motion for Gail to come inside the kitchen. "I don't have beer, but I have some root beers lying around. If you want it you can take it or not. I'm sure you'll love it. And maybe we can get to know each other in here if you'd like."
Gail accepted the can of root beer and guzzled down half of it fairly quickly. After wiping his mouth with his hand, he smiled. "Thanks...I didn't realize how thirsty I was." He leaned against the countertop as he sipped more of the beverage.
"You know, you seem to be in an awful good mood considering what's going on. Robotnik's attacking Soleanna, right?"
