Full Version: Job Corps.! Yay... and stuff.

So I am officially in Job Corps., been there a few days now. It's a great place, I can tell this is going to be a good experience. Unfortunately, there is NO INTERNET. AT ALL.

I am going to petition the student government there to install a wifi box, but the prospects look bleak. There is a significant chance I will be out of internet for the next... well, year or so. Yeah, a year without regular internet access. Bollocks.

Right now I'm using the wifi at the grocery store down the road, but I can only be here for an hour before it boots me out. Not to mention I am going to be very busy and have a hard time finding time to sign out and walk up here.

I told you guys Job Corps. would take priority, even if it meant I couldn't post here anymore. Well, that's exactly what's happening. I can't keep walking up here every few days, not when I have work to do, and I doubt skipping up here every weekend is good enough for complete participation.

If you want to be patient with me, then I don't really have a problem popping my head in every Friday or Saturday if I can. Otherwise, we may already need to write me out. I started those dream diary chapters (which might as well be fanfiction) so if you want more of those then I can keep writing them. However, they kinda lose context without things going on in the present, and I was going to use them as a stage to set up my other two characters, so yeah.

I don't want to slow things down any more than they already are, so let me know what you want to do. Or something. I'll try to get back up tomorrow to check for messages, but I know you guys don't come in here that often, so if you don't read my post until after tomorrow, then consider this my resignation.

It was a pleasure working with you guys. It felt really good to dust off my old fan character and give him the back-story he so richly deserved. I'm moving on to bigger and better things, but odds are I'll be back. (I have this site saved in my bookmarks, so I'm sure I'll visit eventually.) The Middle Ground is still the place I call home, and so long as that site exists I'll always be around there.

Later.
Wow...I didn't think the Job Corps would be that...draconian.

Anyway, I suppose the best thing to do right now would be to talk to Chadin and Jii, since you're in their plotline. If you entered into my plotline, I'd wait for you though. Like I said in my last PM, your writing truly is excellent and it'd be really cool to read fanfiction written by you, if you do that too.

I manage to find time to come here ever day, but well...I'm the admin. It's my job. Most of us here are out of school and have jobs, so we understand it's tough to find time. If you have to go, I suppose it's best to do it now rather than in the middle of a story.
I'm very happy for you, Shaz. Thanks for introducing me to the site. So sorry to see you go so soon.
Alright, I have some good news. Apparently, there are actually computers in the dorms, and they do have internet. I'm told they're slow, and the connection is slow, but as far as I'm concerned that's enough to work with. The reason I didn't know about them yet is because I'm going to be learning about them next week, when I get my password to access them.

So yeah, if I can hop on those a couple times a week, everything should be fine. You won't hear from me again until next Saturday at the latest. (Depending on when I get my password this week) If you just bear with me, I should be able to get on some sort of schedule by next week.
That's great! Glad that you can still come here.

I doubt a slow connection speed would be much trouble here though, since it's all text Smile It just seems like it's a recurring problem with our members not having reliable internet. I wonder why that is?
Bad news: your website is blocked under the flag "games". I can't get to it from one of the center computers.

So now I still need to leave the campus to get internet. (Which I can't very often, because I'm still new.) My post quality will likely decrease now as well, because I'm sick of lugging around my $15 laptop that takes 15 minutes to boot up, so now I'm just sticking to the tablet, which is hard to type on and has an abysmal spellchecker that I can't switch off. (It auto-corrects any word I type, including those I spelled correctly.)

Once again, I'll try to stay in touch. I'm getting pretty annoyed with the internet situation now.
I recommend the following... and by recommend I mean if you want as a helpful suggestion.

1. Buy yourself a good case for your tablet, specifically one that holds itself up on a table. (Kick Stand, Those folding ones)

2. Buy yourself a cheap Bluetooth keyboard. You can buy this cheap as $10 on Newegg... I quote that cause that how much I spent on mine.

You can also get a cheap one with a keyboard case combo for tablets for pretty cheap as well. If you are using an iPad, you can get VERY cheap. If you are going to use a tablet for typing, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Spell Check can be turned off but the menu to turn it off is generally a b*tch to locate since its not under settings.

Though MOST won't be able to do this if you hate having to find internet, bring the internet to you via a Pay-as-you-go mifi card. The initial costs hurt though (most are $70 + recharge price) so I don't recommend it most of the time but I spent $70 for one plus $45 to charge it for 3 GB of data, still only used 1 GB about over three months, since I only use it for tablet web surfing and my 3DS for Pokemon Y.
